IMHO, if you have a gun malfunction you would have to drop out of that sub-event and if you get the gun fixed join in on the next sub-event. Otherwise you would have to finish on the make-up trap(s). Just my .02.

You are allowed 2 failure to fires per sub-event and then the targets are called lost. I think most shooters would allow you 5 minutes to repair or exchange your gun. Beyond that you are also holding up the whole shoot, not just the squad. As Jerry suggested above, that is why they have the make-up trap(s) available. JMHO Bill Malcolm

It has been a common although not stated in writing curtiousy that allow five minutes at most gun clubs. Anything longer causes a back_log for the shooters and club.

It can also depend on the shoot size and management. At a very crowded state shoot, for example, there could well be shoot managers who will see the stoppage and allow a certain amount of time for repairs, and/or ask you to cease shooting with the squad and make up the remaining portion of your event on the make-up trap(s) after your repairs. This just to keep the shoot moving and efficient. Whereas at a small shoot, say with 4 traps and only 20 shooters, you well could be permitted several minutes to make emergency repairs or find a substitute gun......breakemall....Bob Dodd
