Gun range prohibits police after city considers ban

Gun range prohibits police after city considers ban

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- A rural Vermont firing range has told the police department in Burlington that its officers are unwelcome to train at the facility because the City Council has advanced a measure to ban semi-automatic rifles and large-capacity magazines in the state's largest city.

The City Council's action earlier this month threatens constitutional freedoms, Robert Boivin II, board chairman of the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club Inc., wrote in a letter to police department, city and state leaders terminating use of the gun range by Burlington police.

The firing range is in Morrisville, about 50 miles northeast of Burlington. The city of 42,000 residents has a police force of just less than 100 officers.

The club's executive board "can no longer support the City of Burlington with such a prejudice against our club and its members, and has voted to suspend the City's use of our range for its law enforcement. This action is effective immediately," Boivin wrote in the letter, dated Tuesday. It was provided Wednesday to The Burlington Free Press.

"We hope that the council reconsiders its actions and redirects its efforts towards perpetrators of violent crimes and security issues," Boivin wrote.

Wow. One wonders if perhaps the sheeple really have awakened and are filled with resolve. I'm seeing some pretty gutsy talk from the non-fed governments and other entities.

I don't know what else Boivin shoots, but he is also the shotgun chairman and a registered skeet shooter.

The last I knew Barrett had informed the state of California they would no longer supply new or service previously purchased Barrett .50 cal rifles from the California state police or National Guard because the state banned them from civilians. Jimmy Borum

Good for him, it might have been something he has wanted to do for quite some time and this was just a good excuse to do it, quite a few years ago I had a buddy that had a indoor shooting range in Dallas, he said his worst customers were cops, they always wanted everything free of at a much reduced cost

So it was determined by Robert Boivin II, that it was against the Constitutional freedoms? Politically motivated maybe?

    RE: Politically motivated maybe?

City Councilor Norm Blais, a Democrat, said his city wasn't nearly as safe as people thought, saying that "if somebody was not a convicted felon and was walking through our thoroughfare and had an AK-47 slung over his shoulder, there's nothing we could do about that. Most people are surprised to hear that."

    -------------------

An open carry state with few restrictions and not much of a crime rate!

No gun laws in Vermont that amount to much, except Federal and a few areas where your not allowed to carry.

    -------------------------------

Part of Vermont's problem has been an influx of people who came to the state to escape taxes and have more of a liberal bent and god forbid if a bad guy goes to jail. They actually don't have enough jail space and rent out space in prisons outside the state as they won't build jails and try to put everyone on work release or probation.

Wait wait wait. Is the range no longer allowed to be used by the PD or the individual officers? If they are qualifying there I can see it but if cops are members and have paid their dues that wouldn't be right!

And though some cops may want some special consideration (which is illegal in most sates) most pay their way without question and cops that believe in the 2nd Amendment are your friends not you nemisis.

One last note: The rank and file cops who are not political probably think the city's position is asinine. The brass usually has a gag order on them by their politicians.

Story linked says, "unwelcomed to train" at facility.

And a second to what NJCOP says, , usually the brass and it is usually the brass with political ambitions, that are anti 2nd amendment, but not 100 %.

A farmer near me was letting the cops use his field with a high bank on one side free. All he asked was not to use it after a hard rain. they had been shooting their for a long time. He received a letter from the city council telling him he had to provide a million dollars worth of insurance before the cops could keep on shooting on his property. Now he has a locked gate on the lane. Henry

A vast majority of Police officers in Texas are Pro 2nd. Interestingly, but small sample, is that the last two times I have been stopped for speeding they let me off with a warning upon noting that I had Concealed Carry..
