Was at a local gun dealer. She had a customer who was complaining that a new 870 field gun with a scope was missing targets erratically. I said it sounded like a bad scope mount . If a gun has a bent barrel would the gun keep missing @ the same POI ?

Scope, flinch, or different ammo. It's one of these.

It could be that the barrel isn't tightened properly. If the scope is mounted on the reciver and not the barrel that would be my first guess.

    I had a ultra-securely frame-mounted C-More sight on a Beretta 303. The POI moved all the time.

The barrel is indepenent of the receiver. If the scope is mounted to the receiver, it'll never shoot in one place. This is why the manufacturers now use catilever scope mounts fastened to the barrel. When the barrel moves, the scope moves with it.

Neil's picture is a perfect example of a gun that will just spray slugs.

It might not hurt to take a look at the muzzle, in case it's been dropped.

Well, Tron, if you think that's "breathtaking," you had better not look at the rest of it; you will think of your own work as "nothing." I'll license the blueprints to you if you like; I have them in digital format here somewhere.

Neil, were you using a 303 when you won the Minn State Singles with 200? This one?

Yes, Rick, and it probably was this one, but before I had a chance to work my magic on it. I had bought it just a week before from Mickey in Iowa for $350 and every time I saw him after that he wanted "the rest of the money."

    Neil,

How did you attach the scope mount to the receiver? It looks like it was made that way. :)

It is super-sano as we used to say at the street-rod show, but I've always been a bit miffed that everyone here swoons over the Racconoda when I was so far ahead of Joe that I had given up before he even started.

Back to the subject. I'll bet the lady wasn't getting a consistant cheek weld due to the recoil/too high scope mount (you need see through rings on those things for close up shots) and she was getting a little flinchy. I've seen that more than once.
