Husband wants to start trap shooting....not anything serious, just wants to join along for the occasional Thurs. night, weekend nutsin' around. He is a bigger guy and an avid hunter. Wants to stay away from semi-autos, looking for used and under 800.00 - you guys have any thoughts? Thanks... Jill

jlelsey, might be able to find a used BT-99 (Browning) for close to what he or you want to spend.

Does he plan to use this gun for hunting? Because most trap guns shoot high and don't work well for any other shooting sport. If this is a trap-only gun, the 870 trap is a good one, a BT99 is a good single barrel, and for doubles you can probably find a decent used Browning Citori trap for that price if you look hard.

    B V,

    My thoughts exactly.

    Jill,

A nice TB/TC can be had for a couple of hundred less than the $800 budget listed. Heck with a little shopping, a new Classic Trap could be had within the $800 price range.

I must say that it is a little refreshing hearing the wife dragging the husband to the trap range instead of the usual other way around.

This will just be for trap. He shoots an 1100 field gun that he isn't about to part with. He has parted with some archery/ice fishing things in order to get a trap gun. We just don't want to spend alot of money on a gun that may not be used often. However, with that being said - it doesn't make sense to buy a piece of s*** either in case he gets addicted like I did. I'm sorry but what is TB/TC? Jill

If he likes his Remington 1100, he should be delighted to play with the Remington 870, a pump action shotgun that is just about indestructable. The TB and TC are Rem. 870s of better appearance than the stock 870 hunting gun and you clearly should find one intended for trap shooting.....Bob Dodd

Yes, I would say an 870 Trap would be the cheapest entry gun and oleolliedawg has a good price on his.

The TB or TC is a 12 guage 870 Remington Pump action gun designed for trap shooting with appropiate stock dimension for the sport and usually 30 inch vent rib barrel with full or improved modified choke.

Adding a trap barrel to an 1100 means you'll still end up with a flat shooting field gun. Add the price of a trap stock and your creation will likely cost you more than an 870!!
