Great shoot at Rend Lake this past weekend! I was in the area and thought I would stop by last Saturday. Boy, was I surprised! Last summer I dropped by to shoot but there was not a single trap house able to run. Two guys and a host of volunteers have returned Rend Lake to a great place to shoot. I was amazed to see seven houses running. I wish I had taken my gun with me, but I had no idea that a place could be restored in such a short time. I visited with John and he has informed me that Larry has been putting in long hours trying to speed up the registration process, they have had all of their Pat Traps and hydraulic pumps repaired or overhauled. The electrical system in the houses have been serviced, several sumps and sump pumps have been installed to move water off the fields, a transition to cordless voice systems is ongoing, and they have added a token system so members can shoot any day. I am joining the club for $125 and think that is a bargin after I saw all that they have done.

Sunday I stopped in to visit on my way home and learned that they had 130+ shooters on Saturday and were done by 3 PM. I watched the line and they had plenty of scorers and trap help. I never saw a house run empty and there was not a hull on the ground at the end of the day. I saw some really nice trophies and I will definitely bring my gun in April. Great job guys! Thanks for taking the time and effort to restore a great place to shoot. I hope that the shooters in the region realize that you have done a tremendous amount of work and appreciate your efforts by shooting there on April 15...I will be there!

Thanx for the kind words Clay Addict!

We certainly had a great weekend, and we are starting to see the hard work pay off for the shooting community.

I thought I would share some of the pictures I took during the youth event on Saturday. I believe we had around 135 youth shooters. These youngsters just plain want to SHOOT! You never hear a complaint of negative word from them at all. They just flat out have a great time and enjoy the shooting sports. We look forward to having them out next month as well.

Thanx to all who also came out on Sunday. I promise to get some pictures of the "old timers" at the next one!

    Enjoy the pics!

I haven't seen that many cars at RL since "Rooster Tail" went scratching off through the parking lot in his pickup truck. Good stuff. Just proves what enthusiasm can do for you. Good job Larry and all that pitched in to resurrect RL, AGAIN. It's been done several times. Hope it sticks!

It will as long as you keep those kids interested. Southern Illinois has always been a trapshooting hotspot, and still is.

Larry, I am on the road and may be coming through the area this weekend. I just picked up three amazing skeet guns and was not sure if your skeet fields were running. I have only shot a couple of rounds of skeet in my life but the guns were such a deal I had to buy them. If I am the only person shooting skeet can I hire someone to pull for me. I also plan on shooting some trap on those new voice systems. They look so much nicer then having wires all over the place, besides the occasional release trigger issue won't distroy a cord.

Hope to see you this weekend!

Clay Addict - find me this weekend when you are at the club. We just bought and took delivery of a new wireless skeet system, similar to the ones on the trap fields. Unfortunately they sent us the wrong power supply for one of the machines so it may be Monday before we have it all working. I am hoping it gets delivered tomorrow, along with our third wireless trap system, which will for sure be up and running Saturday.

This new skeet setup is great - it allows you to shoot by yourself if you have nobody with you. Just carry the mic with you from station to station.

    See ya there!
