"General Motors is halting the manufacture of its seldom-sold Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric car due to lack of sales. The extended range means it only can go 38 miles on battery power before needing a recharge from its gasoline engine or via a plug-in. GM only sold about 2,870 of these vehicles last year, although sales this year have doubled largely due to government purchases."

And let's not forget the massive taxpayer subsidy of each vehicle, plus the battery fires.

Off subject but I see on the news this morning that GM is not allowing either Romney or Obammy to do any campaigning on there property during the election. Must not be very appreciative of the tax payers bail out after all. You would think they would want some more tax payers dollars and be inviting them for a vist. Tim

The Volt was a GM nightmare from the start and never should have made it best the test facilities. Good decision GM finally

    It's all Romney's fault.

They are shutting down production for 26 days, not "ending production". We'll see if they restart, GM claims sales are up but needs to clear existing inventory.

Why would Romney want to travel to China to give a speech? ;)

(I know they still also own property in the US)

That's to bad. They just need to get the price down to around 20K and battery millage up to about 80 miles per charge. Then they would sell a ton of them. Maybe they should make them in China? No Union, no EPA/OSHA, no rules, very cheap labor! What would you do?
