That's a hefty amount of speed over the limit. Were you guilty?

25 miles over the limit NOT in a construction zone usually gets you a suspended license!!You're in a heap of trouble, boy!!! If you're NY resident, you might be walking for a few years.

They do not take speeding in construction zones lightly anymore. Of course you will find that out. A man died this week outside Columbus working on the highway. States are really frowning on what you did. Rumor has it in IL....1 mile over is 375.00 for first offense.

Now that I scared you, I will give you some advice. I am not a lawyer, so it's free and comes with the usual disclaimers. Write a letter to the court that is going to decide your fate. Tell them you can't afford to be without a license. Tell them you will do ANYTHING to get the charge reduced, including classroom driver education, etc. Expect to pay LOTS of money. My 17 yr old Granddaughter got a ticket for 90mph in a 65mph zone. The end result AFTER driver education classes was $400 for a parking ticket. If you had killed a construction worker doing 25 over you would probably be looking at Manslaughter or Vehicular Homicide. Larry

Doing 25 over the speed limit in a construction zone? You need to be walking.

I'm no slouch behind the wheel but being a lead foot and doing 25 over the limit anywhere is reckless and shows very little concern for the safety of others.

You need to get a lawyer. NY is a tough state on speeders. I suspect that 25 over in a constuction zone is a real big deal. When I was younger 3 of us ended up in a jail overnight in New York because the police wanted to be paid in cash and we had to have money wired.

As for the irritable bowel ploy..good luck. Most cops will just take your their sweet time doing the paperwork if you try that. They'll delay it enough to see if you really were going to crap your pants.

No sympathy for speeders. I wonder why so many drivers don't understand the concept, speed LIMIT. Why do otherwise law-abiding citizens think speed limits don't apply to them. I hate it when I am driving the speed limit and they are riding up my butt, especially aggravating in construction zones where speeding fines are double in my state. When I am in my car and a big semi tailgates me when I am driving the speed limit with my small grandchildren with me I want to point a gun in their face until they back off. I've noticed that aggressive drivers are the same people that speed, tailgate, run red lights and don't slow down for fog or ice. They are the same people responsible for the delays I go through in traffic because one of the idiots had the inevitable wreck they cause, that is why their insurance rates go up. I sometimes think I missed my calling in life, I would love to give tickets all day to those drivers.

Glad I don't live in that regulated state. I would have been walking many times over the years. I got one for 25 over a few months back it was a 200 dollar fine. In Oregon their is no guarantee that your insurance company will ever find out. Certain companies you are more likely but with some they don't check your record unless you do a vehicle change or get in a wreck. If you were truly doing 25 over in a construction zone I hope it was when workers were not present.

Even I wouldn't speed through construction with workers present. Here in Oregon they will hammer your ass in the middle of the night with nobody on the road but you and the cop. Construction zone speeds are enforced 24-7 regardless of the work activity. Good luck friend. Jeff

    Let's see...

In many states fines are doubled in construction zones,

in many states, 20 or more over the speed limit is suspension of driving priviledge for 6 months on the first conviction,

in some states, 20 or more over the speed limit gets you a free ride to the nearest jail to be held until you see the judge.

If I where the judge in your case,

    (1) the fine would be in the $1,000.+ area DOUBLED to $2k+ cash only and

(2)for the next 2 years, you would need a driver because you would not have a license and

(3)I would order your Automobile stored at your expense.

Gee, Do you think that maybe I had a relative killed by a moron speeding in a construction zone!?

Please folks, slow down to or under the speed limit in construction zones. In fact stay within the speed limit +5 mph on all wide open roadways. Stay safe. Drive sober. And stay off the freakin phone!!!

    Phil
(That was my best rant so far). I dislike (sounds nicer than hate) people that put others lives at risk just so that they can speed to get where they are going --on time. If they would have only left earlier......

Defensive driving (course) will remove up to 6 pts IIRC after you go through court. The best bet is to go to your hearing. You will see a judge. Do not plea, request to see the District Attorney. You may have to make an appt., or they may be there trying a DWI case. In either case, they will be the only ones to deal with in NYS.

As a construction worker on the interstate system I fail to be sympthetic I think the officer should have impounded your auto and cuffed & stuffed you, in Michigan the officer can destroy your license in front of you....I have seen this in person a few times and it's priceless.

I hope you learn a lesson and please do not ask for my sympathy.

Why anybody would want to be tried in this court is beyond me. LOL I'd rather take my chances in a real court.

I have to agree that it is a good lesson for all, and a good heads up. I think that between the fine ticket, lawyer, court costs, and your insurance price increase you are going to pay big time. Fine/$400-$l,000, court cost $250, lawyer $l,500, Insurance min. $1,200 a year for 3-5 years. Grand est. total is $2,450 without insurance and add another $3,600 to $6000 a year more for the insurance. This should make us all think real hard the next time were driveing to the range or elsewhere. Don't even think about a DUI in my state, Lawyer is over $10,000 before the other add ons. Break-em all. Don't get too upset about all this. G Gordon Liddy said on his radio show that a traffic cop is nothing more than a tax collector who wears a gun! He said that if speed kills than every driver in the Indy 500 would be DEAD! He is right! Its all about the money, always about the money. That is why here in God forsaken Communist territory of Maryland I know of people with 5 DWIs and they still have a license. The state wants their money, safety is not the priority or they would be walking. Even our socialist Governor's daughter had a DWI recently, he called it "a learning experience for her."
