As a long term lurker it appears that there is a greater number of ridiculous tripe being posted on this site lately.

Most of it is mental masturbation that gratifies only the originator of the thread and is simply nonsensical trolling by juvenile minds.

It would be helpful, as is done in many forums, to post the screen name of the author of the thread so one could choose without having to open the thread. I know that there are many threads I just wouldn't open if I knew who initiated them.

I do not know if this forum software could handle it but if it could I am sure many threads would be ignored and eventually the JO's would grow tired.

    What do you think?

When you open the thread the handles are right there at the top. there is nothing in the software that disables your back button. If you see somone you just can't stand to read, hit it.

    go back to lurking.

You can tell who the tripe authors are; they'll be the ones who don't like the suggestion. :)

    Good point.

Thats one way of "sifting" them out; I think a big sieve would be required to hold them all, here, though ;)

Zara, mental masturbation must be okay, as the original poster used that to make a point about tripe postings.

But.........don't be sitting on the stool with a wide stance and don't never, ever pick up any toilet paper off the floor.........even if it is the only paper available........lol lol

Better to walk out with a smeared rear, than to walk out in handcuffs......

What good will it do if it only shows who started the thread? Assholes like jnoemanh and piddles generally don't start them, they just chime in and add their stupid comments or else spin everything around so that it turns into a plitical pissing contest. Look at who chimes in on damn near every thread and starts this bullshit, and block access from the freakin' losers!!!!!!!!

    Hal-Bert-Ron,

You open a can of worms and offer yourself up for being flamed here by those who disagree. I and many others have argued that it should be necessary for participation on these threads to post your real name on all of your offerings. It is amazing how brave and arrogant SOME people can be when they hide behind the cover of the computer screen and nickname they post. They at times offer up vile and insulting responses to things they don't agree with rather than engage in a friendly and meaningful discussion on the topic. If you don't believe that point just wait a few minutes. (I predict someone will validate it here shortly.)

The plain and simple truth is that there are women and kids who view this site. They are at times exposed to these things and that is just wrong. Those who argue against the use of a real name are passionate in their defense of anonymity but I have to wonder what they would think if someone came into their house and spewed these things in front of their family? And would they feel just as comfortable themselves in saying the things they say here, in front of their church memebers and friends in the community?

It will not change friend. It has existed since this site began. You just have to be selective of the things you choose to read I guess.

    Best to you sir.

    Bobby Ward

In addition, it is too bad but in the case of some potential new shooters checking out the game, this stuff could be one of their first impressions of trapshooters.

This forum is not much different than any other internet forum that allows OT posts. Family members who use the internet, including women and children, can find any amount of vile, disgusting, pornographic and/or hateful discussions with the click of a couple of buttons. If the site is to be a chaste forum for TS conversations, then all OT posts must be banned. After all, someone will think I am a depraved serial killer if I put bananas on my Cheerios (cereal killer?). I really don't see the conversation going "... no, you
%$&*#$%, you can't use 7/8 oz of #7.5s for caps beyond the 22!"

Another alternative is to divide the site into TS topics and OT topics. Or, the threads could be color coded. But the simple answer is to not read the threads, which is just about as impossible as not reading about Elvis' Moon Colony in the checkout line at the grocery store.

    halfmile,

"go back to lurking." You are a witty, funny rocket-man.

This seems like a reasonable idea that wouldn't effect the "flavor" of this discussion group. At least it would be a start to sorting the wheat from the chaff. There are way too many keyboard Rambos to make any discussion that goes past 10 posts enjoyable.

I still think that anyone who deviates from the rules of this forum, which are clearly posted, should be censored. This would take a more active moderator which is a thankless task. I know I've done it, just not here.

It's just amazing to me that grown men can't discuss important matters without resorting to hissing, spitting and vitriol. I'm all for lively, educational discussion but there are some people on this board who aren't exactly debate team material and I'm talking 6th grade debate team here.

    Smash Em,

Bobby Ward, if you think requiring "real names" would prevent aholes from attacking others, you have not thought this through enough. It's super easy to get multiple email accounts, use various proxy IP addresses, and simply make up a legit sounding name. It's a non-solution that really only works for the people who AREN'T a problem in the first place. It will do nothing to stop the ones who harass others. Kinda like gun control.<br>

As a gun owner, I am certainly not going to post my real name, especially on a gun board. I think that's an open invitation for theft.
