Do you think its a good idea to buy a new discontinued 682 gold E trap top combo ( they are on backorder ) or better to wait and see what the 692 will be like? Opinions appreciated. thanks, Dale

A discontinued 682 has a clear track record. What's a 692? How long are you willing to wait to find out?

I just bought a new computer.....searched high and low to find one with Windows 7. If Windows 8 ever gets off the ground, I might buy one with that system a few years from now. Odds are, though, they'll have to scrap it and re-label it Windows 9 to get over the bad press.

    I would buy a discontinued 682 before I'd buy a current 692.

Hard to beat the 682. Proven track record for reliability.

Also look at the 687 SILVER PIGEON III combos that Joel Etchen has in stock. Same features and internals as the Gold E with a different receiver appearance and wearing some nice upgraded wood.

I too would buy a 682 before purchasing an untried and proven 692. My .02 worth.

Never regretted buying a 682 Gold E... It's all I expected and more. I also own the old 682 and that is a great gun.. Don't know why they discontinued it. Why didn't they just modify and make a 682 Gold F?

tanda1 I like the Etchen guns but they only come in an unsingle and I prefer a top single. Thanks for the opinions guys, looks like its all in favor of the 682. Dale

Unsigles put the recoil more directly into your shoulder and reduce cheek slap. Plus the high rib kinda makes it look the same to your eye once it's shouldered anyway. Just a thought :)

I would agree with Mike. Changes are not always improvements. Obama being a prime example. Windows 8 another. Many new handguns around but the 1911 is as popular as ever. The 680/682/686/687 family of guns has been around for a long time and is a proven entity. The UGB25, not so much.

Go with the 682. I've got over 50,000 rounds through my Gold E Trap
with no issues and never had a tune up! They just work reliable, accurate,
and you don't have to mortgage your house to by one.

    Good Luck

I'd wait to see the 692 before making a decision. It may be everything
you'd want plus more. Five years down the road which gun will be worth
    more?

The interesting thing about trap guns is that they don't know when they are "obsolete." If Rudy came back to life he could take his vintage 870 pump and outshoot nearly everybody on this forum, regardless of what modern shotgun they shoot. And that includes doubles.

In other words, if you like a proven shotgun like the 682 and have confidence it it, then go ahead and buy it.

Bet if you called Etchen he could put together a top single combo for you.

tanda1 I asked Joel Etchens if their model came in a top combo and they said only a bottom combo. Dale

BTW, the SV10 was supposed to be the replacement for the 682 a few years ago, and look how that turned out.

I ordered a new 682 gold e top single combo a few days ago. They are on back order and it will be several months before they come in. Gonna be a long summer lol. Dale
