    Any reloading advice on Federal papers appreciated. Handicap load. 27 yd. Want 1250 fps (and naturally no recoil:)

    I have tried 18.3 grain of clays with the downrange versalite wad, a formula that worked in the gold medal plastic like a dream (1250 fps in plastic fell to 1180 in paper). That did not work with the paper. I bumped it to a 34 MEC bushing to 19.2 gn. which recoiled quite a bit to get 1250fps and began to watch the wad to those cute twirls.

    Thanks in advance

    Trap Cat, Try 18.0 grains of e3, 12S3 wad, Federal primmers and 1 1/8 oz of whatver size shot (recommend 7 1/2's) You will think you are shooting factory loaded shells. You won't break targets, you will vaporize them. David Zofko

    Trap Cat;

    I use Federal primer,21.5 Green Dot,Federal 12S3 wad,and 11/8 of 71/2 shot. I love this load and a think they smell like a factory shell.

    Federal paper hull - Federal 209A primer - 700X from Mec #33 bushing - Federal 12C1 wad if you can find them - 1 1/8 oz 7 1/2's - you will prob have a problem finding the Federal wad so use the Downrange clone - TOM

    David's load with e3 is probably as close to the factory 3 dram 1 1/8 oz load as you can reload, and Larry's load with Green Dot is probably as close to the factory 1 1/8 oz handicap load as you can get. If Federal isn't using e3 and Green Dot, I'm sure Alliant is providing them something very close in burn speed.

    I use Herco with fed wads ( 12s3 or 12s4) depending on if I am loading 1 1/8 or 1 1/4. Use the web site to get the amounts as I do not want to give you data. It is a soft shooting powder though, try it. When loading 1 oz loads I use fed wads and green dot. Love the smell

    I have the 12C1 wads that I used in the Fedeal paper hulls.

    I'd like to buy yours, but at $140+/5M, you're gouging a bit.
