I can't figure out how to cancel the 'change engine oil' warning that appears in the odometer display on start up. The owners manual references a button on the steering cluster but my truck doesn't have that group of controls. BTW the truck is a 2004 1/2 ton 4wd 5.3l.

    Anyone know the trick?

Turn the ignition to on(engine not running) then start pushing the accelerator pedal to the floor as fast as you can......it takes at least 3 stomps to reset it....

We forgot to mention that it will flash engine oil reset, when it does......sometimes mine can take some doing to get it to flash RESET.
I just keep pushing the pedal until it flashes.

The light will probably come back on unless you change the oil. Larry

No the warning will come on if I don't reset the message. Now that I know how to do that the message will have some meaning. The reason the message just now appeared is that I use to just take the truck to a lube rack for service and those guys would reset the message after an oil change. Well times got tough and I started doing the service myself to save a few bucks. That works out okay with the exception of being ignorant about resetting the message. (until now)

The warning does not even know it is monitoring oil......It's just a software Algorithm ......It's just an idiot light on steroids.

I can't believe the owner's manual dosesn't contain resetting instructions. Every GM vehicle I've owned did/does.
