Gannet Newspapers places names addresses of gun owners in newspaper. It's time for all gun owners to speak up, stop your subscribition to Gannet Newspapers, business owners remove newspaper boxes from establishments. Stop advertising in the Gannet Newspaper

CCW permits are public information in NYS. You would need a name to start from, but once you have it, and that person has a CCW, you can get their address (which is their physical address, which removes any shielding having a PO box afforded you). You may even be able to do that backwards and find out if someone at a given address has a CCW, never tried it that way. All they did is put a database to a map.

Not that I agree with it, but it's no real great secret who has a CCW in NYS if you want to do a little research.

REALLY helped potential burglars know which homes will NOT be able to provide armed resistance to home invasions.
Sort of a "shopping list" for criminals. What a nice thing for Gannet to do, afterall...we wouldn't want any criminals injured.

For those who've not seen this, go to the links for the article. They just didn't post names, they posted a map of two counties with every single person with a permit indicated by a dot - click on the dot and you get the persons name and the street address. While that info may be available to the public under the local FOIA, having some rag newspaper print it out like that under the guise of "we think people have a right to know who has guns in their neighborhood" is, to me at least, a gross invasion of privacy. Two-way street here for the writer, the editor and the publishers - their names, phone numbers and residential addresses are already going up. The article did nothing but point fingers at legal gun owners as being a danger in your neighborhood.

As Skeet Man said, in NY, "Pistol Permits" are public record. All that's needed is to go to the County Clerk's office with $75 and they will give you a computer generated list of everyone in that particular county with a permit. In my opinion, it's money down the drain as we did it to generate a mailing list for our SCOPE organization (Shooters Committee On Political Education). Hundreds and hundreds of names did not have up to date addresses although it is required by NY law. As for the comment about Gannett being a "rag" newspaper, they are one of the largest in the US and although they are anti-gun, they do cover some gun related and hunting stories. About 5 years ago, one of their Sports Writers, Leo Roth did an article on the 60th anniversary of our Trap League (Inland Waters Trap League). It covered the entire back page of the Sunday Sports Section. Larry Evans

But, as we get all ginned up in the "war against guns," remember this, folks:

No heroic reporter with a FOIA request will turn up what we really need to know - what SSRI antidepressant was Adam Lanza taking, and who prescribed it, and under what circumstances? That's HIPAA-protected stuff, and unless somebody really goes to town on the coroner's report, the average person will have no chance to hear this information - unless and until one of the victims files a lawsuit against the pharmaceutical company in question - probably months if not years down the line (and, even that's assuming the suit isn't dropped when the pharma company threatens counter-suit against the plaintiff).

So, we'll get more loudmouth politicians fighting to get in front of a camera calling for gun control, more loudmouth jerks on TS.com supporting them...and literally thousands more prescriptions for these drugs will be written for kids younger than 18 (some in your town), some will turn out to involve seriously, emotionally-disturbed kids whose parents are in complete denial, it will all be a complete secret between parent and doctor, no oversight, no accountability...

    ...and life will go on.

    Until the next shooting.

    Rinse. Lather. Repeat.

Thanks, mainstream media for getting this one right. SSRI antidepressants are not supposed to be a long-term substitute for institutional treatment for severely emotionally-disturbed kids. This is one of the biggest issues of our time, it's present in every community in America...and the media are totally missing it.

This Link will give you the information for all the Gannet owned firms including Broadcasting, Newspaper and Magazine. You have a very large number of outlets to let know that they are now on the radar as putting honest peoples lives in jeopardy! Maybe we can get something started that can prove that Gannet is NOT to big (or too politically connected) to escape the wrath they deserve.

Larry OGAHCHAMP and all...time to cancel subscriptions to all Gannet papers wherever they are located and tell them why. Also phone calls to their advertisers telling them you intend to boycott their firms and store and tell them why. Newspapers depend on circulation to determine advertising rates. There are plenty of big businesses and newspapers that have gone under because of financial issues. Make no mistake...we pro-gunners are in a war and we must do what it takes to win......ed nichols

Im with Buzz...What kind of Meds was this guy on? I was told the Colimbine kids were on Riialin. Our public schools are continually preasuring parents into medicateing their kids.. If your kid steps out of line they encourage you to visit a doctor. If you refuse they place the non-cooperate message into the childs file...Total BS
Why anyone would let a teacher to do this to a kid is beyond me.

Why dont they do a story?

We have the Gannet rag here too. It's about to go under. First they cut down the page size by a third. then they raised the price (again), then they farmed the actual printing out their sister(comrade?) paper over 60 miles away. Monday the paperboy was still runnin' around the neighborhood after 08:20 delivering (used to be 06:30). If you open the editorial page you might as well have bought the New York Times. If it wasn't for the Sunday coupons, we would buy it at all.
