no problems here using remmy or win hs hulls here with 7/8 loads, universal powder.. i'm sure the federal hull is larger.

Best to use Fed S1 wads in these types of hulls.

You should try using a wad intended for the larger straight tube hull. Like Andy44 already said, the Federal 20S1 wad would be a good starting point. The 20 ga yellow Versalite was originally intended for the tapered hulls like the Winchester CF or Remingtons. Why not go back to what you were using previously. It sounds like you didn't have much trouble until you changed wads. You could also look for a supply of hulls to fit the Versalite Wads, or find someone willing to buy or trade the Versalites. I have used the Versalites in the old Winchester and Remington 20 ga hulls with no troubles.

"I use Federal and Estate plastic hulls"

In the 20 gauge, those hulls can be real picky about what wads they digest. Wad Puritans will say you have to use a wad designed for a straight-wall hull. I guess there is nothing wrong with that, but I've used WWAA20s in those hulls. They were okay. I've tried RXP20s in those hulls. RXPs were less than okay.

Versalites 20s are working fine in my STS20 hulls. Versalites20s seem similar to RXP20 wadss. I never tried the Versalite20s in Federal and Estate plastic hulls but I wouldn't be surprised if they performed like the RXP20s in those hulls.
