1. We have added the ability for anyone to 'bump' threads that they have created. This is mainly useful in the classifieds area where posters constantly bump for sale threads to bring it to the top. This allows them the ability to do that without having to clutter the thread with extra 'TTT' and 'Bump' type posts. To bump it, go inside your thread and click on 'Thread Tools' at the top, then select 'bump'. You can bump only once per 24 hour period.

Out of curosity, what makes this an "Orvis Edition". I don't see any markings on the wood or metal to indicate such. Not that it makes much difference in the value, just wondering.

I don't know, b ut I do like the Orvis breakdown case. That's probably worth about $200 right there.

Does not have any orvis markings on the gun. The gun came from Orvis with the Orvis case and an Orvis cleaning kit. Over the years orvis has contracted gun manufactures to produce shotguns, rifles and even sometimes Air Rifles for them to sell in the stores and in the catalog. Currently they are offering Ceaser Guerini and Beretta models. Cleaning kit is available with the gun but is well used. It has various brushes and cloth. It also came with gun oil and cleaner which is gone.

I'm not a Ruger expert but did notice the receiver was blued steel not SS like they are now. I recall when the RL's first came out that they had blued receivers. I'm guessing too that this is an older model since it doesn't accept choke tubes.

    FIB:

It is is a early 80's Red Label. I have seen Red Labels with blued receivers that do take tubes. I believe there is one for sale on THR forum currently.

Read the post after a reader contacted me... so I inquired...

According to the folks at Orvis, Orvis may have offered Red Labels in the past and at that time it would have been the blued receiver versions in 80s... I know the "leg o'mutton" type case with the older Orvis logo hasn't used for may years also.

John Rano is the Manager of the Orvis gun operation... for definitive information contact John below...

Thanks Jay. As stated in my previous post it is an 80's Red Label. 82 to be exact. I did a serial number check on the Ruger web site. If anyone would like more info please email me or PM me
