His latest TV ad ends - "Remember, our freedoms come from God, not government."

Well, gaaawleee, Freddie, and here I've been thinking it was our Constitution that made us more free than North Koreans. Guess we don't need that worthless piece of paper after all.

I can't see it, so do tell, what point is Freddie making, and why are we more free than North Koreans? Does God hate Koreans or what?

Freedoms come from our creator! Our Fore Fathers had the insight to attempt to protect those freedoms from the evils of government by writing and ratifying the Constitution.

The government can overrule the Creator?

    Never said that.

Man does things everyday that is counter to what the creator intended.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights" I believe this is what Mr. Thompson was talking about. The fact that this goes over any American's head is a sad commentary on education in America.

Now, whether or not one believes in a Creator is another matter. But what Mr. Thompson was saying is that certain rights (life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness ) come with being human and governments are not superior to those rights. Government 101.

Our freedom comes as a direct result of the actions of the men who fought and the ones who died in the service of thier country. They are the only real heros.

Maybe we are spending too much on education when someone like smokerz can't understand this simple (and true) proposition. On the otherhand, maybe he was absent that day; you know demonstrations against anything American and all!

It beats the hell out of me how this whole thing could be a mystery. This is basic high school government. Well, actually, it's covered in the 6th, 8th, 11th and 12th grades nation wide. It's really that basic. John Locke, the enlightenment, Hume, really basic stuff.

Here it is in the words of one of the authors of the Constitution:

"To grant that there is a supreme intelligence who rules the
world and has established laws to regulate the actions of his
creatures; and still to assert that man, in a state of nature,
may be considered as perfectly free from all restraints of law
and government, appears to a common understanding altogether
irreconcilable. Good and wise men, in all ages, have embraced
a very dissimilar theory. They have supposed that the deity,
from the relations we stand in to himself and to each other, has
constituted an eternal and immutable law, which is indispensably
obligatory upon all mankind, prior to any human institution
whatever. This is what is called the law of nature....Upon this
law depend the natural rights of mankind." -- Alexander Hamilton

    Shoot well and often,

    Mark.
