The Franklin County Sportsmen's Club in Frankfort, Kentucky will be hosting a spring trap league this year. The league will run from March 7 - May 16.

The league will be Wednesday evenings. A maximum of 50 participants will be accepted for League. Teams will be comprised of 5 shooters. Individual shooters who do not have a team will be grouped to form a team or added to teams who are short members.

Shooters will be competing for individual and team trophies. Trophies will be based on total participation.

Dates and Times: Registration and team assignments will be on the first scheduled evening of shooting. Shooters are encouraged to preregister. The league will run for a total of 10 weeks. Shoots may be postponed by weather and will be made up by either a double shoot on another league day or an additional league day will be scheduled. The first shoot will be a bank day and establishing of averages as necessary. The first competition will be the second week of league. Late registration will be allowed up until the shoot start time, on the second week of league.

    The league will run from March 7, 2012 – May 16, 2012.

Cost: Each shooter will pay an entry fee of $20 in addition to the cost of targets. This fee will help cover the cost of trophies and prizes. Target fees will be paid on the day of the shoot and will be $4.00 per 25 ($8.00 per week) for adults and $3.00 ($6.00 per week) for juniors.

Payment of League Fees: All league fees are due in full at the 2nd league night (first night for competition). A league member who cannot fulfill his obligations to the league may transfer fees to another shooter who replaces the withdrawn shooter, for the value of the remaining league days only. There is no refund of league fees. A shooter is obligated for the season.

Team Format: All shooters will shoot with the same team every week. On the first day of competition, teams will also decide on a team captain. The team captain is responsible for ensuring that all team members either attend the shoot, or have targets banked. Team captains are also responsible for checking and initialing scorecards directly after shooting. Each shooter will shoot 25 targets from the 16 yard line and 25 handicap targets, the system for determining the handicap yardage is described below.

Classification and Handicap Yardage: Handicap yardages will be decided by the shooter’s 16 yard score. 25 – 25 yard line, 24 – 24 yard line, 23 or less – 23 yard line.

Team Handicap: Individual scores will receive a handicap value based on 70% of the difference between the accumulated individual average for the 16 yard line and 20. For instance, a shooter shoots a 16, an 18 and a 20 over 3 weeks. The average is 18. The shooter's handicap is 70% of 20-18 or 1.4 for each round shot. In the fourth week, the shooter shoots a 19 and a 17 at the 16 yard line. The team score for this shooter will be 19 + 1.4 and 17 + 1.4 = 39.7. The raw score plus handicap can never exceed 23. If a shooter has a handicap of 4 and shoots a 20, even though the combined score is 24, the applied score will be truncated to a maximum of 23.

Team Awards: First, second, and third place trophies will be awarded to the three teams with the highest average at the end of the season. Each shooter on the team will receive a trophy. Based on a minimum of 20 participants.

Individual Format: Individual awards will be given for High Overall Average, High 16 yard Average, High Handicap Average, High Lady’s Average, and High Junior Average.

Banking Targets: A shooter may “bank” 16 yard and handicap targets. The first day of shooting will be a bank day; all shooters bank 16 yard targets and handicap targets (from the 21 yard line). Scores from banked targets can be used to fill in for a week that the shooter cannot attend. Banked targets must be shot prior to the day and time that the scores are used to fill for an absence. Shooters may only have 1 week of banked targets at a time. Special arrangements can be made to bank targets if a shooter is out of town for more than one week, or has some other legitimate reason for missing a shoot. It is the shooter’s responsibility to attend the shoot or have banked scores ready every week. A shooter who misses a week and has no banked scores will receive a 0 score for that week.

Withdrawal: If a shooter withdraws from the league the team may replace the shooter with a new member. The withdrawn shooter shall forfeit the league fees, at the discretion of league management, and shall not be eligible for any league prizes. If a team cannot replace a withdrawn team member, the team will use a “league average score” which is defined as the average score of all league members - not just the shooters team.

Forced withdrawal – If a shooter misses two weeks in a row without having banked targets for the absences, may, at the request of the team captain, be removed from the team by league management. If the team captain is the shooter who is absent, the remaining four shooters can request a new captain be appointed and the old captain be removed from their team. In such a case of involuntary removal from a team, the shooter forfeits all league and target fees. The team may add a new shooter, keeping the previous shooters already registered scores, but the new shooter must pay the league fee of $20, plus all remaining target costs. If a team cannot replace a withdrawn team member, the team will use a “league average score” which is defined as the average score of all league members - not just the shooters team.

Weather: League shooting may be cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions. League management will strive to make cancellation decisions as far in advance as possible. If the weather looks threatening please call ahead at 502-600-1336 for a status report.

Legal Ammunition: All league shooters must use only ATA legal shells. Reloads are legal, but must be within ATA guidelines.

Shooter Agreement: By entering the league all shooters agree to abide by these rules and regulations. For safety concerns, all shooters must obey all range rules, including but not limited to; consumption of drugs or alcohol, ammunition restrictions, gun safety, and pets. By signing the league signup sheet, the shooter agrees to be bound by these and all club rules. Please stop by the office or visit our website for a complete list of range rules. All situations not covered above or in the FCSC range rules may be governed by official ATA guidelines and rules.

Glad to see the local club approving a league! I'm in and have talked/co-erced my wife into participating! I like the handicap formula, as it keeps anybody from running away with the 10 week scores.

Looks like 500 targets for $100., put your own team together or be assigned with 20 trophies with a minimum of 20 league shooters. Looks like good deal and fun time to me.

The club also has a great clubhouse, lights, excellent food, cable tv, two indoor restrooms, and good folks! No smoking upstairs but smoke 'em if you got 'em downstairs!

Sometimes a friendly card game in the corner!

“The league will be Wednesday evenings” What time does everyone need to show up and at what time will the league start.

If you don't have a full team to shoot with, we will be assigning teams for shooters without a team, and filling in teams that aren't full at 6:00pm on March 7. Other than that, there is no assigned time for the league shoots. Just make sure that you get one of the league or club officials to keep score and you can shoot at your convenience.

Got a question this afternoon at the club whether you had to be a member to shoot the 10 week league. Nope! Member or non-member, all are welcome at the same price. While we welcome new members, this is an attempt to put a little fun, cheap competition into trapshooting.

Eddie - Not sure when ACSC will have another Big Killer. We have been having good participation on Tuesday night. Wed. night games at Franklin Co. are also going well if the weather cooperates. Anyone that likes to shoot games should come see us at ACSC on Tue. or FCSC on Wed. Lee

joe, did you get the sign up sheets posted Wednesday night at the club? I had to leave around 6: 30 so may have missed it. I've got four for a team (2 women) and am working on my fifth shooter to round out the squad.

There are sign up sheets by the cashier's window next to the fliers for the league. There are sign ups for both teams and individuals. We've got a 4H meeting on Monday and I'm going to try to get at least one team of kids from there.

Filled our team last night! Me, My wife Noreen, Jim and Nanette Miller and Bull.

13 days before league starts. Time to get your team together. Last night had around 30 shooters for practice and 10 or 12 games shooters. Come on down next Wednesday, club's open by 2:00PM, shooting usually by 2:30 or so. Singles, doubles, handicap practice. $4.00 a round non-members, $3.75 for members. Usually $2.00 games ($1.00 to club, $1.00 to shooters).

Good food, cable TV, indoor restrooms (2), plenty of parking. We are a two trap club including a Pat Wobble. The oldest continually operated Sportsman's club in Kentucky!
