When someone sends a barrel to you and asks you to lengthen the forcing cone, do you first test the barrel by shooting 5 to 10 patterns with the barrel owner's shotgun shell of choice, to see how it patterns (using something like the "shotgun-insight" computer program to evaluate the patterns) and then do the same type of test after the machining work as a comparison to show your buyer how your machining work has improved their barrel?

And are Browning owners and maybe owners of other manufacturers shotguns made aware that once a barrel has been modified the gun can never be serviced by the original maker? There has been more then 1 Browning owner with a lifetime warranty find out when Browning ships their gun back unrepaired with a letter stating they will not work on the gun when they discovered backboring/forcing cone work.

I watched Perazzi USA do exactly that at the Grand one year... The shooter told them it was factory!!!

Lucio consoled him... but wouldn't touch the barrel...

except that now Browning is backboring (Browning Back Bored Technology)and advertising lengthened forcing cones from the factory.

Thats correct fathawk, they have been selling overbored barreled shotguns since invector plus hit the showroom floor in about 1991 or 92. What does that have to do with someone else tampering with their factory barrels? Liability, thats what its all about. They don't care about releases in the guns, but they used to take them out prior to shipping the gun back to you.

I think you will find if you dig a little deeper, Brownings aren't "back bored" they are made with a larger than standard bore barrel. True back boring is taking metal out of the inside diameter to increase bore size- I don't believe Browning would make a barrel and bore the inner diameter then bore it some more. If they were fixed choke guns maybe- Dan
