Look for used Rugers, Remington 700's and better yet pre-Garica Sako's.

Lot of shooters trading in their guns for the newest an greatest, finding a lot of good buy's lately!

    Their loss my gain!

Take a good look at the Tikka T3 rifles - dollar for dollar one of the best rifles out there.
Adjustable trigger, drop free mag - made by Sako but at a fraction of the cost.

Weatherby vanguard. Less then 400 dollars and you get a gun that shoots less then 1 inch groups with a test target to prove it. Tuff to beat! Jeff

CDNN is blowing out Howas for $339. A really good deal. The Smith and Wesson is the same price, but I don't think they have any 243s left.

Savage would be my first choice.
    Rem 700 next.
I had a plain-jane Ruger once and didn't like it at all. Trigger was junk and accuracy was horrible.

Savage 16 (?) with the accutrigger and the accustock is what I would buy.

Plain jane Weatherbys will shoot, IIRC its 1.5 MOA proven out of the box, but it doesn't really matter.

Any black synthetic Rem 700 will likely be a shooter and are so upgradable as money comes its silly not to own one. They can be had for about the same money as the weatherby.

I agree with Warpspeed, what are you wanting it to do? Benchrest shooting, or coyote and pig hunting? Are you going to handload?

Our trap club has a rifle range and I talk to a lot of benchrest shooters and hunters. Most opinions are: Savage with Accutrigger, Remington 700, older Remington 788, Winchester 70. Howas seem to be popular. The Ruger #1 and 77 seem ok but everybody has to have a trigger job on them. The Weatherby Vangaurd is popular, and I think its made by Howa for Weatherby, the one I shot, the trigger was junk. The guns with the most accurate groups are all handloads with very good triggers and very good scopes.

Howa makes Weatherby's Vanguard rifles for them. Chuck Hawks (gun review website) says the Vanguard has one of the best actions out there. If CDNN has the Howas for 339.00 that is the most bang for the buck.
