shooting has taken it's toll on me and my friends over the years. the best that i can compare it to, when we get together at the gun club, it reminds me when i was at fort sill, oklahoma, when the guys in artillery would get together, lots of loud talking. my friend luther tried telling a joke the other day, on the 3rd time, when he got to the punch line, an old guy with hearing loss would say he couldn't hear him, repeat it. luther got fed up and said" are you deaf? man said what? luther called him a dam fool and walked away. it can be frustrating.

Rock and roll, motorcycles(many), oilfield work( 25 years of drilling and pulling rigs and gas compressors) and finally...lots of shooting. My poor ears don't have a chance. I say huh??? more and more.

Ear Protection This is a repeat but worth a revisit, typical soft ear plugs cut shooting noise on average15- 20db, add ear muffs again about another 6db reduction which is great but it cuts down the intenity about in half.

Crushers, grinding mills and an obsession with the .357mag as a teenager have put me into the moderate to severe hearing loss category with the higher frequency noises (female voices). I'm about ready to look into getting a hearing aid(s) and I am only 48 years old. All I can say is I wish I would have made better use of hearing protection.

Motorcycles, trucking, factory machines, and 35 years of shooting have all taken a toll on my hearing. My wife saw a car one day when we were together and asked "What kind is it?". I looked at my watch and said "6:15". It's been a sore joke ever since.

50 years of assorted guns, 40 years as a sheet metal worker( air hammers grinders, compressors)4 years of USAF jets- I can't hear a damn thing if there is ANY background noise(especially my wife!) The ringing gets worse when it's quiet...Damned if you do- damned if you don't...

After working 19 years around those high pitched machines at work, the company, in all of it's wisdom (And OSHA) said I had to wear hearing protection.

After 19 years, it was to late.

I probably should have hearing aids, but now that I'm a widower, it doesn't make any difference. I have no one to talk to anyway......lol

My wife Rose, God bless her soul, used say I had selective hearing. I only heard what I wanted to hear.......lol

I can't say that I've changed all the much either.

    Hauxfan!

You know it wasn't the shooting we did. It was the shooter next to us - I blame him; whoever he was.

    What we talking about?
