Got a new K80 barrel. Fits receiver fine and ejectors work properly. The forend latch does not quite want to seat correctly. Since there are no gunsmiths locally, is it an easy fix to adjust the barrel lug so the latch seats fully ?

Maybe, it could be one or both issues. The wood at the tip may need additional inletting or the forend lug may need to be filed a bit. It's best to remove the forend iron from the wood and try to latch it first. If it fails to latch it's likely the lug needs work. NEVER file on the slot that engages the iron to the barrel!!

Do you know how to check headspace btw?

PS if the headspace is ok(which I have a feeling you dont know) then the forearm lug might just be a few licks of the old file

lick the wrong way though and you will pay a big price-- hmmmmm,mm,mmmmm

    Regards from Iowa

When I push on the latch it does not quite bottom out.....it is "spongy" and there is a gap between the radius of the forend iron and the receiver.

No expert am I, but what you are describing, I would take it to a gunsmith that is familiar with K-guns. Why take a chance on shooting it and have something happen to it, or to you. Mike.

I had a set of barrels fitted at NSCA nationals. Mine seemed to go together just fine, but showed the gap in the radius between the iron and receiver that you mention. Don indicated to me that he would not have recommended me firing it that way (which fortunately I hadn't).
