I have acquired an extra 682 set of barrels that seem to fit the receiver OK, but the forearm latch will not close.
Would I be imprudent to file some off the back of the barrel lug in order to get it to fit properly?
Exactly how would I accomplish this?
What would be the potential pitfalls?

I am not particularly mechanically inclined.

Thanks in advance for your help.

TAKE IT TO A SMITH that know how to do it. A couple of file strokes in the wrong place can really cause trouble($$$$$$$).

Take the gun to a competent gun smith. The locking holes in the receiver end of the barrel probably need to be reamed to line up with the locking lugs that protrude from the receiver. I wouldn't try to do this without the proper tools.

"Get thee to a gunsmith"...putting metal back on, while possible, is a real pain.

The money you spend up front will be far less than any repair costs from attempting to DIY.

    Just some friendly advice,

    Best of Luck,
