I've been looking at some reloading data using Federal components and noticed that there were some 1 1/8 oz loads that called for a "12S0" wad and some that called for a "12S3" wad.

What's different between these 2 and how many more designations are there for Federal wads for 1 oz and 1 1/8 oz loads?

Typically, the 12S0 is for one ounce and has less shot cup capacity than the 12S3 that is designed for 1 1/8 ounce. Some loads may require one or the other to get a proper crimp, even if it's with the wrong mount of shot. There is a 12S4 for 1 1/4 ounce loads as well. There used to be a 12C1, but that has been discontinued, as far as I know.
