I got some Fed 209 primers at a gun show recently. As a previous poster said, they don't make Fed 209 primers any more, but now make the Fed 209A, which is a hotter primer and is not interchangeable without checking recipes. You might go with Winchester 209s or one of the imports instead. Mark

I tried my first Federal 209A primers this summer. I bought 10K of them to use in once fired Top Guns and Gold Medal hulls. After my first 1000 I traded them away. My regular primers have been Fiocchi, loaded 30-40K with them over the past years. Always used them in all of the Remington hulls. Out of those tens of thousands of reloads I don't think I had 10 FTF. The new Federal 209A in either the Top Guns or Gold Medals had at least 1 FTF in every box. When looking at the problem on the FTF it shows the ball part of the primer set a little deeper than normal vs. the ones that went bang. I just don't think the Federal Primers are that consistent in quality. I learned my lesson and will stick with Fiocchi.

You are better off using RIO Primers, I use them exclusively in all cases, but you have to stay with them if you have installed one in the Hull. The primer pockets are expanded as they are larger, never had a FTF using them, over 50,000 used so far, w/any powder + Promo, 800-X. Longshot, Super Field, Solo 1000, Solo 1250.

I use Noblesport 209 in place of WIN 209. Over the last 45,000 + I have not had one FF. They are $97.50 per 5000. They are slightly larger that Win 209's so you have to stay with them. Use them with STS hulls, Claybuster Wads and 700X.

    We get ours from Gamaleil
