Anyone ever see or use these wads with a "RED" base wad?? They are listed in the manual as BLACK base wad. The wads are in bags marked 12C2?I am wondering if federal screwed up and put 12C1's in the wrong bag or did they manufacture the 12C2 with a red base at one time!???

No problem. 12C2 wads were designed for the Federal Champion II plastic cases. They had a smaller diameter base (black) than the one designed for the paper Federal cases (red). I can't recall red Champion II base wads.

    Hope this helps!!

The 12C2 wads we had were black. There was a case of 5,000 that was handed around the club when I was stationed in Germany back in the '70s. They appeared to be under-sized for loading in most of the hulls available and bloopers were common. I believe they ended up in the base landfill. Ron

12C2 were for Champ II, 12C1 for paper. 12C2 worked in AA cases also, and I loaded a lot of Champ II with AA components.

The smaller diameter of 12C2 would indeed cause bloopers if used in paper or straight walled hulls.

Just use a caliper and measure and you'll sure be able to tell.

And no I don't recall seeing any 2's with red base either.
