I'm currently using E3 to power my 7/8 oz. loads due to the availability and relative cleanliness of this load. I load nothing but REM hulls. Am looking for any suggestions about different powders people might be using that might be slower or faster, which would have different recoil patterns.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mr. Mark

After a little research, I have swapped to Claydot. I used Solo 1000 for many years, but our local distributor has taken the price on 25 lb kegs to where it is not economical to buy them. His prices on 8 pounders has not changed.

Hard to beat 16.5~17 gr of Nitro100 for 7/8oz loads. Loooow recoil, great patterns, and burns real clean! Great with #8 1/2 shot back to the 24 yd line! AndyH

700X or Solo 1000. Both worek well with the WW Gray wad or clones and the WW or STS hull. The Winchester lite powder has several loads in the 7/8 ounbce range at very modest velocity if needed which is great for starting a new shooter.

Clays, 700X,and Red Dot in that particular order of preference. I use STS hulls, Fiocchi primers and Federal 12SO wads.

700X has given me many one digit standard deviations over the chrono. STS, Win 209 or Cheddite (going to Fiocchi), AA12L wad but I've used the 12SO wad in decades past with good results.....Bob Dodd

I'm down to just loading Clays for everything, but I don't load anything over 1 oz, at normal speeds.

I will use Clay Dot again, when they finally get rid of the graphite, and start publishing some real data.

I have been getting good results with 15.8 grains 700x in gun club or STS hulls with the Winchester grey wad. I suspect any of the other fast burners mentioned here will do as well. I'm out of CLAYS right now otherwise I would try that.

Mr. Mark, stay with what you have. You are already using the best powder for 24g and 7/8oz loads in the 1150 to 1250fps range. I use an STS hull, STS209 primer, 16gr e3, 12S0 wad and 24g of 7/8oz shot for 1220fps, with SDs in the single digits. You will also get decent results with the DRM XXL pink wad.

Any faster than that and I want to go to American Select. Same or better cleanliness and softer recoil. STS or Gun Glub (preferred for this load) hull, STS209 primer, 19.6gr Am Sel, 12S0 wad and 24g hard shot is a magic load in my barrels.

Promo works great and if you use the calculator it makes the cheapest load. Try some AA-lite it goes a long way at 14.5 grains per load. Zero recoil!!

While I had the E3 still in the powder hopper, I switched bushings and three 15.6 gr. with 7/8 oz. of #8 shot.

WOW, absolutely no recoil and really good breaks on targets. Will load some more along with solo 1000 loads tomorrow to pattern on the board.

    Thanks again to everybody,
    Mr. Mark

By the way, I have heard that Promo and Red Dot are very close to the same burn rate, in fact so close that you can basically use the same amount of either with the same results. Can someone verify this? I realize that the Promo must me considerably cheaper, but is it that much dirtier or is that all in one's head?
