Well I was inspired by the recent thread about Scotch, and since payday is coming up and my Buffalo Trace is about gone, I figured we'd get the whiskey flowing and give me some ideas before I pick up a new bottle this weekend.

As for me, my favorite is Buffalo Trace, followed by Jefferson's Kentucky Straight. Buffalo Trace is much more woody and smokier than Jefferson's, which has more burnt caramel characteristics. Both very fine bourbons in my humble opinion. What's your preference?

Remember, "I never consider a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in bourbon, as a cause for withdrawing from a friend." -Thomas Jefferson

    Cheers,

    -Trappy

    There are two I like...

For a slightly sweet, good mixing Bourbon try Rebel Yell.

    Straight sipping - Makers Mark

Makers mark. For something different try some of the new rye whiskeys. Knob creek is good. Bill

Day in day out - Ezra Brooks - good mixer, good for beans, peach cobbler, and BBQ.

Sipping - Bookers, with a water back.

    1) Pappy Van Winkle 20 year. Bar nun the best bourbon out there. ( impossible to find and very expensive )
    2) Blantons Affordable, excellent Carmel taste. Light oak (which I prefer)

3)Jefferson's Reserve sweet, almost citrus beginning, very smooth finish

    4) Old Pogue. Very strong oak, hints of smoke.

On a recent trip to Kentucky I tried Elmer T Lee and Four Roses (small batch). Both were good but I didn't drink enough for a proper discription.

Makers Mark on the rocks, but I also like Jim Beam and Ginger Ale on the rocks.

    @APrice

Agreed Jack Daniels is not Bourbon, just Sour Mash Whiskey.

But is still does the same thing.

    Clouds the memory.

That why I can't remember how good looking she was last night. LOL

Ya know -- I went to bed with a 10 and woke up with a 2

    :)

If you go to a bar that has each of the above and do a side by side taste test, you'll end up with Woodford Reserve. Some of those high proof Bourbons are like drinking gasoline.
