Most anything with the appropriate wad, #8 shot, and velocities between 1180 fps up close and 1230 fps at distance. Do it in Fed. papers if you really want a treat....breakemall....Bob Dodd

Any listed in the book for Solo 1000 or clays. Both are soft and clean.

Win AA CF hull, Fed 209A, 16.9 gr Hodgdon Clays, Claybuster CB1100-12,WAA12SL clone, 1 oz of Magnum #8.

Not sure about being the best, but this load has served me well for 16 yard singles and 1st shot doubles.

Red Dot at about 1150, anything in the book that will do that. Really, it makes little difference.

I was a 1 oz "doubter", but a register convert now. Next goal to have confidence in 7/8 oz load.

Nitro or STS hull, Win209 primer, CB pink Winchester clone wad, 17.8 grains of 700X, 1 oz of Magnum 8's. If I point the business end of the barrel correctly, instant vapor. If I fail to point correctly, misses about the same as 1-1/8 oz.

STS hull, 17 grains Promo, 1 Oz #8, Tgt 12 wad and Fiocchi primer. Once in a while I load 7/8 Oz using this same recipe; of powder, hull, primer and wad. ( I adjust the crimp to accomodate this). Ed

    Remington Hull

    Win 209 primer

17.2+/- 0.2 grains of Hodgdon CLAYS

Downrange XL-1 neon green wad, or Green Duster wad

1 ounce (actually measures more like 0.97 ounces) of 8-1/2 shot.

    Your mileage may vary.

My all-time favorite is STS hull, STS209 primer, 16gr e3, TGT-12 wad and 1oz hard shot for 1150fps (nominal) @ 7970psi. This load is right out of the Alliant manual. My closest bushing throws 15.9 grains, so that is what I actually use.

My favorite 1 oz load, which is similar to ZZT's load, is an STS Hull, Remington 209P primer, stitched Remington TGT-12 wad and 16.5 grains of E3. Alliant lists a load using all the same components except 16.9 grains of E3 at 1200 fps. I estimate that my load is around 1180 fps.

    I love it.

I also love the E3 powder after using 700X for many years. E3 is consistent as felt by my shoulder on each shot and is ultra clean.

Federal Paper Hull, 17.5 to 18 grains of either 700x or Clays, 1OZ of 8 1/2's, Winchester PINK One ounce wad and a Federal 209a Primer. Soft and fast. Sotballs targets.I know that the Winchester wad doesn't make sense in the Straight wall hull but it works. Jeff

Remington hull, Green Duster wad, STS or WW 209 or Nobel Sports primer, 18.0 PROMO makes a good load with 1 oz of shot.

I use 1 oz for first shot in Doubles. I use new AA hulls with pink Winchester wads because they are designed for the AA hulls. I had a few problems with TGT12 wads hanging up on the basewad of the AA hull.

    SuperXJeff,

If the Winchester WAA-12SL wad works for you, you might give the Downrange XL-1 wad a try. A little less costly, and its a direct substitute for the WAA-12SL. Same is true for the Green Duster. They're OK now that they fixed the plastic problem they had a couple years ago.

17.5 grains of Rex 1, Claybuster pink wad or green duster, Rio, Fiocci, or whatever primer is cheapest at the moment.

    Federal Gold Medal Hulls

    0ne ounce of #8

    Winchester WAA12SL

    Federal 209A primer

    18.6 grains of Clays

    velocity = 1235fps

All by Hodgdon's data on line.

I use this load for all singles and doubles. Had several 100 straights and won four trophies this year with this load. I shoot a Beretta 682 Gold E Combo. I use IM choke for singles and CL/IM for doubles. When I do my part, I get excellent breaks and ink balls. I like this load, will keep using it.
