The lunch lineup at a Lodi, N.J., elementary school includes carrot and celery sticks, orange slices, and beef hot dogs with whole wheat buns. New rules limit high-calorie and -sugar foods in schools. TRENTON - New Jersey's health department is escalating the battle against the bulge by starting an Office of Nutrition and Fitness to better coordinate programs aimed at preventing obesity.

New Jersey may be the first state to create such a government body

They don't need a government body to do that. Oregon is passing a law that simply specifies how much fat can be in a school lunch (no more than 35%), and that certain foods will no longer be offered at schools, like soda. The goal is to make schools "practice what they preach".<br>

It's so typical of liberal governments that they have to create a whole new layer of bureaucracy to implement something that should be easily codified in law instead. And people wonder why taxes are so high and government is so bloated.
