Annie, John Phillip, a long time ago. In maybe 1990 the ATA invited several celebrities and they shot off in a "buddy shoot" partnered with some ATA stars.

Yes indeed J.P.Sousa was a trapshooter. I believe Ithaca had a Sousa grade gun.

The link above is from the Tennessee Trapshooting Hall of Fame website page of inductee Lon Hammock. On that page there is a photo of Roy Rodgers along with Lon Hammock. This photo looks like it could be at the Grand.

Maybe some of you can help me identify the others in the photo. Could the second from the left be Mrs Evelyn Primm (spelling)? I'm not sure of her time era.

Wasn't Robert Stack an accomplished trap shooter also?

Back in the day, I think many Hollywood personalities took part...

Just to name a few, Clark Gable, Randolph Scott, John Wayne, Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power, Wallace Berry, John Carradine, Charlton Heston, Robert Stack, Robert Mitchum, Lee Marvin, Steve McQueen and many many more were all casual Trap and Skeet shooters as well as Upland game hunters.

8th Air Force giant Curtis Lemay was a big shooter also...

Robert Stack was a good trapshooter, but he was an All-American skeet shooter. I believe he wrote quite a few articles for Gun Digest. John Philip Sousa died in 1932, and was a founding member of the ATA, and is enshrined in the ATA-HOF. Wayne

I think that Blago is going to be there. After all, they wouldn't let him appear on that TV show. He will probably explain how he built the facility, for his shooting buddies.

They had celebrity appearances back in the eighties. Astronaut, Deak Slatten, actor Dub Taylor w/ his grandson. Can't remember who else. Boy, Deak was small. I'd say about 5'6" with cowboy boots. Dub was funny. I think the NRA brought them.

Leo shot in the celebrity buddy shoot, he partnered with Deke Slatten. Our friend, Jim Overstreet shot with Roy Rogers at the Grand. Others at the celebrity shoot included Dub Taylor who shot with Bob Munson and Dale Robertson who shot with Dan Bonillas. Leo also shot with NFL football player Don Nottingham.

Leo III wasn't the first in his family to bring home a trophy from Vandalia. His great-grandfather, W.L. Harrison won a trophy in 1934.
