And what's amazing are all the banks around here that are constructing new buildings or are remodeling.

The bigs are getting all the juice, what you are seeing here is exactly what happened to Preston Tucker in the auto biz.

With credit card interest at 26% and more, the bigs have a lot of income a small bank can't get hold of.

All they can do is issue a major card and pay tribute to one of the bigs. So they get a drop or 2 of what spills out of the bucket.

I am sure someone here knows more about it.

Bad real estate loans but none of them are "Too Big to Fail." Who said this administration is for the "Little Guy".

Those numbers are the FDIC numbers.

Many of these banks are failing due to uncreased capital requirements and failing mortgages. Several banks around here are letting people stay in homes they would have taken over, just to not have more foreclosed property on the books. They hope home values go up so people can either sell and break even or if the banks have to take them over then the bank hopes not to loose so much money on houses which are worth less than the mortgage. In some areas more than half of the mortgages are for more than the home owners could get in a sale. Being under water is a bear. Kills sales for both new and used homes.
