Well. I spent my first 17 years living overseas, where almost everyone carries. This guy would've been dead with 15 entry bullet holes on him a few seconds after he started firing. Also, where I came from, you settled your issues in the appropriate venue : if it's a politician, you vote them out. If it's a beef with someone, you put your piece away and challenge the other guy to a fistfight until someone cries uncle. It's the culture that needs to change. Guns are not the problem, it's the way they're raised. Just my opinion.

I bet you sixteen bucks that when it all comes to light, this shooter turns out to be a mentally-ill, liberal dirtbag.

Which reminds me: you liberals on this site, how many shots do you think a magazine should legally be allowed to hold?

...since such legislation is no doubt in the making, I figure it's a good time to get the liberals on the record, so we know where you really stand.

Just a simple number will be fine, please.

    buzz-gun: You are right there.

One of the fiercest gun control advocates in Congress, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), pounced on the shooting massacre in Tucson, Ariz., Sunday, promising to introduce legislation as soon as Monday targeting the high-capacity ammunition clip the gunman used.

Facts on Glock used in Arizona shooting, could of been a Sig, Taurus, Smith and Wesson or any other for that matter but everyone now calls them Glocks ...
The shooter was a nut case and would of done the same thing in a different manner if he didn't do it this way and he had the chance ... People are trying to put the Political spin on it because some Politicians got shot and or killed but the majority were civilians as well as a child ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Obviously the shooter was/is mentally diseased and not fit to have weapons. Sane people don't go shoot up a bunch of people. But at the bottom of it all is a sick kind of reward system where these nut jobs get their 15 minutes of fame at the cost of innocent lives.

The gun was the tool, the dope was a crutch, our inability to deal with mental illness is cause.

This latest shooting in AZ is a tragedy but worst than that is that we will continue with the same discussions about gun laws and punishment and totally ignore the problem which is mental illness and a twisted media system that glorifies the end game of those whack jobs. Any bets on how long it will be until the next tragedy?

As I have said in the past "guns don't kill people, people kill people".

If the nut jobs didn't use a gun they would have used another weapon of there choice. So I guess if the nut jobs used a kitchen knife we would ban them also, or could no longer a a blade legth over a certain size.

It all a bunch of BS. Laying the blame on the weapon of choice is not the answer. I could kill someone just as easy with a 2x4.

Its all in what you choose to use to get the job done.

It ain't the guns fault, I just wish that more people would wake up and realize this.

Thank God for people like the lady who grabbed the magazine and the retired military man who wresteled the shooter to the ground and the man who hit the shooter with a chair. Otherwise there may have been many more people hurt.
For those who say an armed citizen in the crowd would not help, remember the security officer in Florida a few days ago who stopped the school board shooter. An armed citizen with range training can make a difference.

Thank goodness for a KNOWLEDGABLE person about firearms like the article writer. VERY well done! and finally please PRAY for those dead and wounded.

Good article. It's refreshing to read something by an author who is knowledgeable.

Speaking of that, am I the only one who feels really annoyed when media types, each time there's a shooting, start spewing nonsense about guns without any apparent obligation to learn even the most basic facts? In the past 48 hours I have heard these statements made by "professional" news reporters and talk radio hosts:

"A gun expert I spoke with today told me that a Glock is such an advanced weapon that a person can not even fire one without specialized training. We need to find out who trained this guy to use one."

"A Glock is basically a hand-held machine gun."

"The shooter had a Glock and I'm told that he had 30 clips with him that he fired them in less than 30 seconds. That has to be hundreds of bullets, right?"

    Uugh!

If this Wacko had bomb making knowledge, He would have killed many dozens! Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Millions were masacred before guns were invented. The criminal and Wacko will always have access to guns. We legal, recreation, sporting people always get penalized when something like this happens. 1oldtimer

We had 30 round magazines for Tactical shooting, they are very obvious when they are in the gun ... Glocks can get off many rounds in a damn quick hurry if you want or need to ... I carry a modified version of the Glock 17-9MM and it is a lot faster than I am, thats for sure ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
