Days of sponsorship have long been gone. This is the age where the bottom of the P & L sheets counts. Those young college whiz kids have showed the ole dogs what really counts. Nice thought though about becoming good enough that everything is paid for. Dreams keep one motivated.

Like K-80, I remember the G.O.D. s. All the mfg.s had very good shooters on the payroll and were considered so good that as "pro's" they could not play the purses. These shooters were allowed to sell their "demo" guns at the end of each year. My father in law had a best friend that he bought several 42s and M-12s for peanuts, a Win. Rep.. Next the best shooters were independents and received new guns and shells under the quise of testing. Usually they could not alter the guns and in some case returned them annually. Depending on their results in a year they could receive new shells for the next year. I know of several individuals who received shells with the stipulation that empties were left on the ground. 2 men in Indiana received 20 cases of 500 Remingtons this way. They sold them to buy Federals. I bought some of them at $35 a case when retail was $45

The economy has taken its toll on sponsors also and is not going to be changing real soon ... Not sure who has been or ever was sponsored by the factorys but unless it don't have mufflers on it and go in circles you might have a problem finding yourself a sponsor ... The top teams in NHRA (Drag Racing) are losing sponsors faster than they can get them in many cases ... We got a sponsor for a bowling league but have yet to see the shirts we are supposed to wear ... We had one business say that they were okay with us putting their name on shirts if we buy them, they wouldn't even pay to have them lettered ... I told my wife she is going to sponsor me like it or not because I wear the pants (shorts) in this family just as I was getting done letting her know who the Boss is, she walked in and I dropped it ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I believe the hands of the ATA are tied in many ways due to the tax status being a 501 (C-3) there is a laundry list of things they cannot do when it comes to promotion, unless that has changed since early 2000 ... I have not kept up on the not for profit regulations for the past 5 or 6 years and I'm sure there have been many changes that might or might not effects the ATA directly ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
