I opened up this brand new shell and inside was a wad cup sitting on a pedastil. Never seen a wad combo like this.

I'm thinking I've seen those used in some Federal paper hulls.

Std wad in federal promo (top gun, field load, ect, anything w/ a paper base wad) in the 12 and 20. Only the Gold Medals use a 1 piece wad. What Unknown saw was the old 12c1 wad, which Federal hasn't used in years.

estates and Walmart Federals use these.

When I shoot Estates, Seldom does the wad get 5 yards beyond the trap house.

Top Guns use a wad like that and we get alot of shot cups landing on the roof of the trap house.

The famous Federal Triple-Plus wad column. Federal has been using this wad since the 1960's in field loads. The advantage is that the "post" collapse's to adjust to varying shot and powder charges.

I have always been a poor judge of distance, but being at 5280 ft MSL, things do travel with less air resistance out here, but yes, those cups are behind, on and in front of the house, but they work well because I have seen a lot goods scores shot with them by many shooters that use them

I would guess it came in the factory box you took it out of. Look at the box to see what kind it is. no box? read the shell. If you cut all your shells up you won't have any to shoot.
