1. We have added the ability for anyone to 'bump' threads that they have created. This is mainly useful in the classifieds area where posters constantly bump for sale threads to bring it to the top. This allows them the ability to do that without having to clutter the thread with extra 'TTT' and 'Bump' type posts. To bump it, go inside your thread and click on 'Thread Tools' at the top, then select 'bump'. You can bump only once per 24 hour period.

    Hilltop,

I used one of these for my Ford truck - worked great, but aren't they specific to one VIN only??

Mine read the VIN from my truck and will only program that VIN - can be used as a diagnostic code reader on other trucks, but will not program them.

    Or is yours different????

Yes you are correct, only one VIN at a time. If you reset yours back to stock you may use on another Vin. When I traded my 06 GMC in I put it back to stock.

HSLDS, I just wanted to make sure that it was clear that once you use the chip/programmer on a vehicle that it can't be used on another vehicle until the initial vehicle is set back to stock. At that time it can be used on another vehicle. I have one in my 06 F150 and my son wanted to see what it would do for his truck which was a 05 F150 4x4 5.4 engine. My truck is a 4.6L two wheel drive. I like the ability to change shift points as well as hard shifts. I also set my shift points higher as well as the rev limiter. And a $100.00 is a real deal. My bad,

I was under the impression it was "one and done" - not that they could be returned to 'stock' and used on another vehicle. Makes sense actually.

Sorry if I lead anyone astray.

    David

PS These are great units - took my truck from 13city/18 highway to abut 18 city and 24.5 highway (added air intake and exhaust at the same time). Also firmed up the tranny for shifts.

Why don't the car companies do this themselves to the new vehicles? There must be some drawback to having your truck reprogramed.

    RickN,

The US gov. is still using the standards it set for fuel efficiency that were set in I believe 1976 - the same time we were forced to have catalytic converters on our cars.

Think of the technological changes we have gone through with fuel injection, computers, etc. since then.

Being forced to use those old standards one still wants a car that gets high fuel efficiency (higher mpg) least your car be hit with a 'fuel guzzler' tax - this goes over the entire line of vehicles - whether you make one model or fifty.

With this in mind the car companies essentially are forced to 'max out' the cars to meet an arbitrary standard set over 30 years ago, not one that gives higher actual fuel mileage and/or lowest pollution output.

Another aspect is cost - just changing the programing does a little for the engine - change the air intake and exhaust at the same time and you can see increases in HP, better mileage, a 'cleaner' running vehicle, but that adds to the sticker price (have you ever looked at the hose clamps on your car's radiator hoses?? - Cheap as can be - but you can change them for "good" for a few bucks - that few bucks can cost a car company millions over a specific model or year of production - it is called 'cost cutting').

So the car you get is set up to be a compromise - an average of all for all, regardless of ones ability to sore above the rest - starting to sound a little socialist here isn't it??

The one I had for 06 Chevy gas made you use hi test. The increase in milage was offset by gas price but it would really get with it.
