1. We have added the ability for anyone to 'bump' threads that they have created. This is mainly useful in the classifieds area where posters constantly bump for sale threads to bring it to the top. This allows them the ability to do that without having to clutter the thread with extra 'TTT' and 'Bump' type posts. To bump it, go inside your thread and click on 'Thread Tools' at the top, then select 'bump'. You can bump only once per 24 hour period.

For more detailed information please see this post: Thread Bump Functionality.

Bad 303: No disrespect intended but what does "Quilted" refer to? Or, did you perhaps mean Spalted? Dave

Dave quilte refers to the figure of the wood. This particular type of figure is sometimes called shell or tortise due to the fact that the figure looks something like the shell plates of a tortise.

Spalted is a term to define wood that the decay process has started in. Spalted is both a natural occuring as well as "manufactured" process and makes for a most beautiful wood if caught before the decay gets too far. If the wood becomes soft or punky, it is of little use. Spalting can vary from black, brown or gray lines in the wood, to those lines with the addition of coloration that ranges from black, brown, gray, red, green and sometimes pink or even a purple shade. These colors will of course not be vivid, but rather muted.

There are several different names used when refering to this type wood. Turtle shell, flame shell, quilted. They are all the same maple wood. Like Mike stated spalting is of little use unless it is stabalized first. The stabalization process consists of injecting acrylic into the wood at high heats. Stabalized spalted wood can be as beautiful as anything you will ever see and can be injected with different colors. It does become very heavy after the sabalization process. I have some stabalized wood as well.
