had occasion to shoot a round of clays with a young man on my squad who absolutely crushed targets. six three, two thirty, fantastic athletic shape, but never knew if his gun was loaded or not. when on station or not! absolutely couldn't carry on a coherent conversation with anyone about shooting or anything else for that matter. he was strictly a shooter, and after a while, he became kind of scary to the rest of us on the squad. he was like an emotionless, uncommunitive machine that just kept on producing hits regardless of his lack of awareness of his gun and those of us around him. it was fun to experience in a strange kind of way. kind of like skydiving. has anybody else ever experienced an experience anything like my experience? thanks

Sounds like an amature who was getting lucky. Anyone with any experience should be expected to practice SAFE gun handling at all times. I just find it hard to believe that this guy has much experience with firearms.

Many years ago at Harold's Club shooting facility in Reno I shot on a squad with a fellow that would take his shot and then turn his back to the traphouse and face the bleachers until it was his turn to shoot again. He did this for 100 straight shots. He shot a 97 from handicap that day but the rest of our squad ended up shooting very poorly due to his unusual behaviour. The squad went to the management to try to get him kicked off for disrupting the squad. They wouldn't do anything so he shot his next event by himself as the rest of us pulled out. I saw him again at the Spring Grand when it was held in Phoenix and he was doing the same thing! Luckily I was on a different squad. He may have been a genius but I prefer the term idiot. Half the people I shoot with are a little eccentric but not certifiable "nuts".

I put on my best face when it comes to guys like that......I will screw with them so much, they will either stop the BS or find another squad to shoot on......It's usually the only way to deal with them....having his gun pointed in the direction of those watching should have been reason alone to cause a scene.

I shoot to shoot, not be anal, but to always respect the others who want to shoot, and not disrupt them.....Those who want to have fun, use funny ammo and smoker shells need to go to the ditch bank range and shoot mud puddles.

I knew a kid in school that was a smart smart kid with school work and books. He could do anything. On the other hand with people he was unskilled and a fool and or moron. He couldn't talk to people and or connect with people.

the one thing i always remember, not shooting related,is in High school there was a mentally challenged guy. he knew every street, side road etc. in town,if we needed to know where or how to find a place we all went to him for directions.how he knew these things, only God knows

i've know several really book smart folks but had no common sense and couldn't do much else.

I shoot with a true fruitcake frequently. There is no telling what he might do. Unfortunately, he is me.

Quartering, sounds like the young man described in your first post just knew the secret of concentration.

If he'd shot a 76 would you have felt better about it?

Couple of times I shot with guys similiar. Both times it was bothering the guys on the squads. I simply stopped the shooting for a couple of minutes walked to the center of the squad and said lets all practice safe shooting and have respect for everyone shooting. Is that alright with everyone. I looked at everyone and the one that did not answer I looked at him and said, is that ok with you. He shook his head and we all went back to shooting.
Both times things went fine after that. But I had guys in the club house thanked me for doing that. B12

I usually shoot with the same 4 guys and each one of them tells me that there's one guy on the squad that's not quite right. I can't figure out who it is.
