I have purchased 16 lbs of e3 and would like to know what you ALL out there think of the powder. I plan on reloading 1oz and 1-1/8oz loads. Any good recipes out there other that what is published by Aliant. Will use AA and STS hulls with Win primers.

I load e3 with just about any haul @ 17 grains using fio 616 primers and TGT clones from claybuster or downrange for taper hauls and cb6100-12 in straight haul shells. Depending on your haul you will be at 1175 fps to 1225 fps. Makes for a nice clean burning load.

When I tried E3 (15+ years ago) it was just as good as the 700X that I customarily used, charge weights were very similar, was a little more expensive so I just stayed with 700X. Wouldn't hesitate to use it again if the price was comparable. Ross Puls

    Stuka,

Been using E-3 for over a year now, in one-once loads. I use Rem. Nitro hulls (Gold), 1-oz. 9-shot, Rem. primers, D-R DRRT12 wads, and 16.2-grs of E-3 powder. Really a shoft shooting load, and smokes targets when I hold up my end of the deal.

I am using STS hulls with Clays & have been thinking of going to e3. I shoot a 1100 so I like clean & 1 1/8oz loads. is e3 close to Clays for being clean? I did see its $ 20 cheaper for # 8 lbs jug & it takes less for same FPS load. Made in USA would be nice to.

It is very clean if you keep the pressure up above 9000 psi. I have loaded 19 grains for 1 oz loads at 10500 psi and it was as clean as you can get imho.

I find e3 to be clean even in loads with less pressure than 9000psi. My favorite 1oz load is STS hull, W209 primer, 17gr e3, TGT-12 wad and 1oz West Coast magnum shot. Alliant lists this load with an STS209 primer at 1200fps and 8550psi. Lyman lists the identical load as 1191fps at 7600psi with an STS209 primer and 1194fps at 7600 with a W209 primer.

I think e3 is a little too fast for 1 1/8oz loads in general, but there is one I really like. STS hull, W209 primer, 16.5gr e3, Windjammer wad, 1 1/8oz shot. Lyman lists it at 1180fps and 9700psi. It is a very soft shooting, but hard hitting load. I use the DRM clone of the Windjammer.

I know you didn't ask about 7/8oz loads, but here is a superb performer. STS hull, STS209 primer, 15.5gr e3, Fed 12S0 wad and 7/8oz shot. I also load it using a W209 primer.

I check about every 5th or 6th shell and it is very consistent within .1 to .2 grains max

I use 17.3 grains of E3 in a 1 oz. load for cold weather and around 16.8 for

    summer shooting.

Meters ok in my 9000 but found out the hard way to NOT use a powder

baffle for E3. Very incosistant. I use just the rubber grommet and brass

washer and it meters, like I said, ok.

I use a two pound lead weight on top of my E3. It stays compressed and I get vitually no variation between charges on a Hustler. I also pause a couple of seconds at the bottom of the stroke to let the powder settle. Ron
