Seeing how the registered shoot at Peoria Trap & Skeet was cancelled this Sunday because the powers that be are going to be at a duck blind drawing, I hope that the results of the drawing will be posted here for all to enjoy.

Out of curiosity, is this a drawing for a portable duck blind, or winning a spot (inside an established duck blind) to hunt?

Brian. The DNR here in Illinois hold drawings for the established duck blind sites in the public hunting areas. The largest area is the Sanganois conservation area where there are about 60 available blind spots. Over 1000 people will enter, in person, for those 60 or so spots so it is a big deal, and a big party, cookout, outdoor show, etc. Most of the other smaller hunting areas hold the drawings with less of a crowd but just as much enthusiasm. As Roger will attest.

Hunters lucky enough to win a blind spot will be allowed to construct a blind on the site. The winning hunter may designate 3 others with "rights" to the blind, but they must reserve the blind in person before a designated time, if they wish to hunt their blind that particular morning. Unclaimed blinds go into a daily drawing for the area and those daily winners choose available blinds in the order drawn.

Truthfully, in Sanganois there are about 20 blinds that are great. Twenty that are good if conditions are right. The rest are hit and miss, probably the last 7 or 8 spots taken today are not even worth puting a blind on.
