It looks like Florida has passed a wonderful law that'll require welfare recipients to pass a drug test before assistance will be issued. As usual, the ACLU and all the libs are against this saying that it is unconstitutional.

Please America let this law stay on the books so we can get this country back on its feet. If they would cut welfare to the illegals and the druggies then we would have a good start at making this the greatest country on the Earth!

I've been for this for a long time. Welfare reform needs to happen. I think there should be a cap like unemployment has. Never ment to be a generational way of work. Only supposed to help when the chips are down. Good luck Chuck Hrosik

Where in the Constitution does it state anyone is "entitled" to
    receive welfare?

How in the world did LBJ ever get his "Great Society" program accepted to start with? It's just socialism plain and simple.

Watch the libs try to mix social security, a plan that working tax payers pay into, with welfare, an "entitlement" that takes tax money from working Americans, so welfare won't be touched. They know who their voters are. The Dems will scare old and disabled people into thinking they would have to take drug tests and are about to lose their benefits. I say phase out welfare and do whatever it takes to keep SS solvent including taking it back out of the General Fund and putting it that "lock box" the democrats always talk about but who are the very ones who raided Social Security.

I've paid into Social Security since I was old enough to get a card and I shouldn't have to worry about the government stealing the benefit I'm owed.

Shooter#1-Im with you on that. It should be required in all states including all govt employees also,YES, congressmen and women; if you collect welfare, food stamps, you must take and pass a drug test, if you fail,no money,no voting.Lee.

A recent development as ALL govt employees will have to take drug tests, suddenly they want to legalize drugs. That means you will still be able to get welare, however, the original bill authorizing welfare states the recipient must work.

My tax dollars fund all the welfare, food stamps, etc etc. To make those tax dollars I have to participate in a drug free work place program. Including drug testing, drug education, drug awareness, etc. I think it is unfair to me that anyone receiving my tax dollars don't have to abide by the same rules. Whats good for the goose.........

This will be an interesting subject to follow but I'm not optimistic.

About half the states have proposed legislation requiring drug tests - usually random tests - for welfare recipients. Some efforts are recent. Others not so much.

Michigan actually passed such a law in 1999. A judge shut it down five weeks later. That was the start of a four-year legal battle which ended with a federal appeals court ruling Michigan's law violated the 4th amendment prohibition on unreasonable searches.

Most states gave up on the idea over concerns about lengthy, expensive, and unsuccessful legal battles.

Before I retired, I was in three separate federal DOT data bases. Each of them made me subject to random drug tests. Damned if I understand why random tests violate a welfare recipient's Constitutional rights but didn't violate mine. What's up with that?

Would be nice but it would cause major meltdowns, riots, and other mayhem. inner cities would have to be fenced in.

As a State Certified Trainer in my state, I am subject to a drug test at any time. If I refuse or fail the drug test, I can be charged with a Class A Misdemeanor. Up to 11 months, 29 days in jail and a $500 fine.

This has been way over due.

Do you really think the Democrats will rock the boat with their voting base?

Not only should they have drug tests but also be required to put in some community service work for their money.

    Gentleman;

I am all for drug testing welfare recipients as they are getting benefits that the tax payer funds. I think that we are going a bit far when we are advocating taking away someones right to vote because they work for the government or they are on assistance.

The purpose of a representative republic is to give all citizens a right to vote. The problem is not that the welfare recipients and the government employees all vote the same way. Everyone votes with their wallet and will vote with their best interest at heart. The problem is that we only have roughly half of eligible voters cast a ballot.

The majority of people in this country are hard working sensible people. If we had everyone vote the libs and the welfare cheats would be marginalized. We are getting out-organized and out-mobilized by the leftists.

    Thanks
    Mike

I'd be happier if they would not only do it before they recieve but randomly afterwards. I mean they can quit long enough to get approved or however its chosen and then start up again. Do like my employer does and make it computer chosen random drug tests. You pop positive your done.

The other issue is the BS that happens with the food stamps or food aid cards. My wife worked part time in a supermarket while in school years ago. They would buy steaks for themselves and ground burger for their dogs because dogfood couldn't be bought. If your living off us, you don't need any stink'n pets especially ones we are paying for. They have the system figured out and its hurting us all. I say they should have a basics menu they can choose from and thats it. Its suppose to be aid until you get back on your feet. Not life at the Hyatt. This crap has to stop. When things get tough at my house, we tighten our belts. I would feel sick to my stomach if i was recieving aid and living high on the hog.

    Okay, i'm done now.
