I want to offer up for auction here a beautiful blank set of myrtle wood for the benefit of the Illinois State Trapshooting Association. I bought it at auction here to benefit David @ Trapshooters.com and want to extend the benefit to my state association. The proceeds will be used for the production of a nice metal facsimile of our logo to be displayed at the site of our state shoot. I will also request that the logo "travel" to each Illinois zone shoot, when practical, for all to see.

Years ago, I made one from wood and It hasn't held up to the weather. I hope to get enough money to have one made from a material that will withstand the elements better. This one will not remain outside in the elements like the wooden one though. I think this is a worthwhile project. The wooden one was mounted on the "WELCOME" sign outside the front door at Brittany Shooting Park and many have used the sign and the emblem as a backdrop for momento photos. When not "traveling" or mounted outside during shoots at Brittany I would like it displayed in the Illinois Hall of Fame which is protected by bars when not open during shoots.

I'm trying to find the original photos of the wood from the TS.Com auction and will post them here for your kind consideration.

I could use some suggestions for how and when to most fairly open the auction to get the biggest bang for our buck.

If I recall, Barry paid at least 350 for this blank when he first got it in the original auction.

Mike Mann donated this stock for the benefit to David VanElgort's Trapshooters.com. He is looking for the original photos of the wood for me to repost here. If he can't find them I will take new photos and post them here after I get back to Illinois next week. I'm in AZ now.

The auction will end during the annual meeting at the 2011 Illinois State shoot in June. Since the ISTA enjoys 501-3c status, the winning bid should be tax deductible. I'm not completely sure about that and I will research and get back to you here.

Either way the money will go for the ISTA logo plaque. Thanks, Barry.

I believe that you cannot take a donation if you receive in-kind compensation (i.e. the blank). That's what my tax accountant has told me in the past, anyway.

Probably right Devi. Good cause anyway. I'm hoping we get enough money to make the plaque and do some good in the development of a promotional program for the Greater St. Louis and Metro Illinois area. It's a start.

If there is anyone else who would like to donate an item or a service to be auctioned with the proceeds going to the ISTA Trapshooting Promotional Fund, let me know either here or by calling me at 618-980-0877. Thanks all. BCR

WoooHooo ! Now we're off. Target shooters are the best. I'm heading back home Friday and will get the photos taken and posted as soon as I get back. Sorry for the delay.

While not an accountant, I believe you can take a tax deduction for the amount donated in excess of what was received in return for the donation... how that may apply in this instance I cannot say.
