Our traphouses are taller than most because of south louisiana soil. Would or should this affect the setting of targets. Pat traps jim w

I don't believe so. ATA rules say that the target should be between 8-10 high at a distance of 30 feet (10yds) from the trap when measured on level ground.

The arm of the trap should be set at the level of the pad the shooters are standing on. If your trap houses are taller is the pedestal that the trap is on higher then the pad. This should not effect the height of the target but it is not ATA. As Eric said the height should be 8-10 ft.

There are specific height requirements for the trap house in ATA rules & regs (between 2'2" and 2'10" above 'level' at station three).

That being said if the ground can't handle it you have to do what you have to do... However you might not be able to throw 'registered' targets.

Target height should be measured from level with the foot position of station three as well.

A slightly higher roof line will seem like the targets are coming out slower then regulation houses. Most guys wouldn't notice or pay any attention to that except the top flight guys. Those guys would pick up on that immediately and make the necessary adjustments! Actually makes one LOOK for the clay before moving his gun and that can't be all bad either. Hap

What club in south La are we talking about?? Most places in that part of the state have a water table that is so high the earth worms wear scuba gear.

The higher trap house shouldn't cause too much trouble. Setting the targets with a T-bar measured from the height of the target on the machine will help quite a bit. Otherwise you will have a target presentation with little face.
