So, everyone is so worried that the unions,,,,, Blah Blah Blah, and all the the time gas prices are getting run up like mad. I saw a station in Solvang CA today that had Diesel for $4.06 a gallon when we drove by. We went back by the station about 1 hour later and they had bumped the price to $4.15 a gallon! That's .09 in one hour. Cahnging prices once a day is too much doing it every few hours is not going to work.

This is all about speculation and nothing more. Congress was supposed to have fixed this after the last time prices got out of hand, but noooo,,, they had to stuff Obamacare up our asses instead.

When will congress start doing the people's business? And stop with the "Agendas" I'm sick of hearing the word "agenda"

Just wait till the Saudi's get into this uprising. Then you will not have enough money to get to the gas station.

Its not about the people's business, its about PARTY LINE! The Repub's try and do whats right, the Dems only want socialism!

Jobs that get their pay from the tax $$$$$ collected, SHOULD have never been allowed to form unions PERIOD!

Gas prices are adjusted so they can purchase the next truck load based on what the Futures market has lead everyone to believe. Wall Street is bad enough, the Future Market is pure evil!

Park your cars and stay at home for two weeks. If the scumbags in Wisconsin can stop going to work, so can you. Plus, supply and demand will kick in and the gas companies will drop gas prices like a stone. Screw 'em.

Kit, Yesterday was the first time I had fired any of my cars since last Sunday. it didn't lower the price of anything.

Now if everyone did it? Fat Chance! Ain't gonna happen.

This is a comodity that we are totally dependent on as a society. It should be "nationized"

My roommate is a tool pusher( crew boss) on the one of the platforms off Gaviota CA. They have been shut down for drilling for the last 5 months because Obana shut down all offshore drilling after the Gulf oil spill, and just got their new permit a week ago. That's the Department of the Interior under Obana. They did nothign but put our oil production back 5 months, thus driving up prices exactly like Wall Street commanded him to do.

And don't kid yourself, the entire "Obana Agenda" is all about financial chaos, and redistribution of wealth, which will ultimately lead to a lowering of our standard of living. Problem is they aren't redistributing any of Wall Streets money. In fact as I have pointed out many times here, Obanas new COS is the ex CEO of JPMorgan/Chase bank. ???DUH????

I am absolutely sick of the Democrqatic Agenda. It is killing this country. It needs to be stopped now! And this president and his cronies needs to be stood up and shot for treason. Our system works too slowly and as a result it will take years to rectify his corupt socialist leadership.

Problem is the banks and wall street don't move that slowly(money never sleeps) and many millions of people will have their lives ruined by this asshole's "agenda!" before it can be redirected.

Socialism is just another name for Communism, and why the Democratic Party has embraced this philosophy is beyond me. They talk about being all patriotic but everything they want to do subverts this country and moves it in a direction that is not wanted by even the ones who are pushing it that way. At some point a Lie Detector test has to come into the picture, to ferret out who is right and who is a torrey.

I say recall him now. I think a petition to recall him would take about 2 weeks to get enough signatures with the internet nowadays.

    What do you think?

Don't we all like open capitalistic markets where the sellers of products and services decide what they are willing to sell at and buyers have the opportunity to choose whether or not to buy and the damn government stays out of our way. What happened.

The price of iol ges up because the traders believe that there MIGHT BE shortages because of some situation. That ism the very definition of SPECUATION!

What happens when the oil supply is not affected; do we get back the money we paid in increased prices? NO! the SPECULATORS keep it and laugh all the way to the bank.

Obama would not do anything about this because he HATES oil and wants to see its use decline. What better way than having this happen and having someone else to blame? This being said, It may sink the economy and destroy his chance for re-election. See, there is a bright spot behind every dark cloud.

birdogs---When speculators buy oil for future delivery they are taking a risk. ( It is for future delivery because they don't want to store it) They are hoping that they can sell it at a later date for a profit. Please remember that who ever sells it to them thinks they are wrong and that the price will go down. If either party is wrong, they lose money. I thought taking risk and enjoying the losses or benefits was the American way.

Traders. True that is why they are buying futures to sell at a profit down the line, but the real intent of futures is to stabilize prices. Like when Airlines buy futures of fuel they actually take delivery of that fuel. They are jsut paying todays prices, for tomarrows fuel. Speculators are paying todays prices to sell at tommarows prices. This ties up inventory, and raises prices.

Speculators do not take delivery, that is why they can afford to be involved in the game. Granted, their sole purpose for being there is to make a profit. They only way they can do that is if the price goes up due to lack of inventory. If you trade something enough times the price will go up especially if nobody else has any to trade..

If the Speculators had to take delivery of the product and then sell it, They could still make money. They would just have to subtract the handling expenditures from the profit. This would make the trading of fuel futures less attractive for the majority of investors and thus keep the prices lower.

Congress was supposed to have stopped this type of speculation after the last time this shit happened. We got Obanacare instead!

Wake up guys, Fluctuations in fuel prices is caused by nothing but Speculators diddling with the market. Speculators don't necessarily have to be from the US, but the majority are.

w.r.buchanan---Let's forget about stated intent for the moment and think about why people really use these markets. They do it to make more money than they think they would if they didn't use them. And, that's as much true for the "speculators" as the airlines or any other commercial gas user. My guess is if you talked to one of the commercial buyers of gas, whether airlines, trucking buyers, etc. they would, only after a few drinks, tell you that they buy gas for future delivery when they think the price is going up. They would have to be very stupid or very drunk to do the reverse. In public, sober, they won't say that because it is not PC.

If your logic was correct that "if you trade something enough times the price will go up." and by trade I am assuming in this context you are talking about buyers, why would anyone ever sell.

Also, please remember that America was built by speculators. The first westerners to get off the boats were the biggest speculators we have ever seen and most of them lost everything. It's real hard to separate the "good" speculation from the "bad". Generally, in the US we have concluded that the freest markets will provide the best prices for the most people.

Traders: Having a good time doing nothing today as my back is totally out, and this is all I can do!

The reason why people sell short is to make some profit and redirect their funds elsewhere. They can then get back on the train and buy again and make some more profit. It is not necessarily limited to one product, maybe they sell fuel to buy porkbellies. Also it is not necessarily a one time thing, people in these markets move their money around daily.

You're right outfits buy futures either to use or sell because they think the price is going up. I don't get the question here. We all know they are doing this to either make or save money. Nothing wrong with that,,,except,,, The problem is "their making money" costs ME money. I don't like that, and you don't either. They are essentially taking money out of our families mouths.

Making buyers physically take delivery of their purchases, would drastically slow down the increases in Commidity prices. Instead of $4.00/ we'd be looking at $3.50 a gal diesel here in CA which is what it was until 2 months ago.

When the ExCEO of Shell Oil comes on Gretas Van Sustern's Show last Decmber, and states(for the record)that Gas prices will be at $5/ a gallon by 2012, and prices start up the next day. That pretty much says it is a rigged game. None of this middle east crap was even taking place at that time.

Does this not make you wonder?

The fact that we are at $4.20 a gallon right now in February means they will be at $5.00 a gal before July 4 in fact if they keep going at the rate they have gone up in the last 2 weeks they'll be a $5/gal by the end of April!

If we could just get Congress to put the brakes on these assholes it would make our lives much easier. We are heading for another dip in the recession just like it was triggered by the last fuel price spike. I don't want to debate what casued the loss of peoples homes and jobs, people can think what they like, but I called it when it was happening and, the decline started on August 5-6 of 2006 When they spiked the price of diesel from $2.59 aglalon to $3.09 a gal in 2 days. Excuse: a cracking tower in El Seguindo went down.3 week later cracking tower, (which was never shut down according to the truck drivers)was back on line but Prices never have gone below $3.09 a gal in CA since.

Instead we get union bullshit today as a distraction, while the well lubricated weiner of big oil goes further up our collective ass.

Gotta love capitalism, which by the way, I do like much better than Obanas take on life. I just wish the greedy bastards could show some restraint. They are literally acting like the country is about to collapse, and they have to get it while they can.

Makes you wonder huh? Maybe were screwed and don't know it yet?

forget the crap about the stock market. You are not going to stop it. We need to be pro active. Drill for oil in the USA. Stop importing. Bring back tariffs to encourage production in the states. Reduce tax on corporations with home offices in the USA. Give tax breaks to the corporations who bring jobs back home. Tax the hell out of the out of county corporations. The tax could be in the form of tariffs.

Tell the unions to go to hell. We are going to automate and reduce cost of production. The union can retrain the workers to do something other than insert a screw.

Stop and think this through. We are barking up the wrong trees. For years we have been importing more than we have been exporting. Importing more than exporting moves our money out of the country and we have to borrow it back and pay interest. This is going to get very ugly before it is over.

Our $ will lose its status as the backup world currency. When this happens we will be screwed as a county.

Is that what the shit head we have as a president wants to happen?

We have to get the attention of the asses in Washington and get spending under control first. Cut entitlements. Why are we giving the people on welfare cell phones? Why is the IRS returning more money to people than the people paid in the first place. Yes, this is going to hurt big time. Each of us will need to take care of the elderly in our families. We will have to take care of those in our families who are not working. This is going to be a joint effort.

Increasing taxes will not help. Increasing taxes will only slow things more and increase the problem.

We must get exports going again at all cost. The way we are doing things is collapsing quickly.

    Mark,

You are right. Obama and the communist arm of the democrat party are deliberately trying to destroy our country. Everything is a catastrophe. Everything is always bubbling over. They are trying to take us down.

The union rallies in Wisconsin are nothing more than a diversion to take our eyes off MUCH more important and compelling issues.

Randy, you are right. Parking the family car will not fix the problem, but political activism will. It is time for the Senior Brigade to reunite and attack the democrat U.S. Senators with demands for IMMEDIATE and permanent reactivation of all domestic petroleum production and for immediate permitting of new refineries at a large number of strategic locations around this country.

NUKE THE WHALE! SCREW THE SPOTTED OWL! The bastards have taken away our souls and we've let them. Come on! Damn, it's time to fight.

The war is political! It is ours to fight and ours to win.

WR's response to Obama Socialism? "Nationize" the oil industry. Brilliant. Make sure you write a letter to Barney Frank and give him your ideas...I'm sure he'll be pleased. You're becoming a "tool" of the Obama regime even faster than he intended.

I've come to the conclusion there is no real conservatism left, even among old, white trapshooters. Capitalism is ok..."until it costs "ME" something, then I don't like it anymore."
