    eBay auction 190561365390

Some grave robbing idiot in Vietnam is selling dog tags from MIA.

Apparently the goal is to try to get big money for them from family members of the missing.

A bunch of people are flagging this auction as inappropriate.

That doesn't look like any dog tag I saw when I was in the military.

Looks like the set I have hanging on my ret flag.

Too bad he's not in the states, We could educate him on the use of those tags.

Mine from the early 60's had a notch in the edge close to one end, and the edges were rolled, not smooth. Maybe they changed to make em cheaper.

Sorry to be so lame here, but how do you sell something MIA?

Were these being sold as originals or replicas? Some sort of a tribute or keepsake?

I know people can be insensitive without knowing, others just heartless bastards trying make a buck.

The coins made claiming to be silver found at Twin Towers site is an example of the latter.

Is that what was happening with the tags?

The notch was made so it fit between your teeth uppers and lowers wouldnt fall out when shoved in your mouth.

Slick has it right, just wondered why the new ones don't have the notch.

Geez, the old notch between the teeth thing. Here's the real reason for the notch. The old style tags were stampted on a modified verson of the Address-O-Graph machine. The notch was a registration or witness notch that asured the lettering would be in proper alignment. It had zip to do with being wedged between anyone's teeth. I know, I ran one of the machines.

Yes, but the teeth story sounded so good to the gullible.
