I live in Georgia, just had my hearing checked by a Beltone specialist and would like to purchase digital hearing aids and was told that they are $3,000 each. Is this the going rate for these and does anyone might know in my area where I may purchase these for a much lower price? Thanks, Johnny

Be very careful of those storefront audio specialists. they are out to rob you. Go to a certified audiologist(sp). They are licensed and well trained and probably cheaper. At least in my area. I have had 3 sets. Just for kicks I went to one(storefront) and the outcome was that only the most expensive would work, but they would give a discount which would bring the price to only $4500/
My doctor charged me $3500 for the pair.

This summer I had a hearing test performed by a audiologist and was then informed I had hearing loss in the higher frequency range...duh. After the test, he showed me a pair of Oticon Delta 4000 aids and said they were the best in the market. Ok, and the price? Oh, for the set, they run $5000. which includes "tuning". This seemed very expensive and a search on internet vendors and eBay for pricing comparisons showed them available at $1800. for BOTH! That is a huge difference and when they called me to schedule a fitting, I told them that my price shopping showed they were way out of line. She then offers them for $3000. My reply was no thanks, your practice seems unethical with the price gouging. My elderly mom is constantly being nailed on many purchases or services with the rip off artists out there...buyer beware.

    jimx200,

But how can you get the aids fit if you but them through the internet. Aren't everyone's ears different or are hearing aids "one size fits all"?

Belton is a rip-off. If the aids don't work for you it will cost you 5% of the total cost for the trial. Most Audiologists won't charge anything if thay cannot help you or perhaps a very minimal fee. I would stay away from Beltone. JRM

While NOT hearing aids, EAR makes digital hearing protection that can be tuned for your ears. Not nearly the prices listed above and the are true hearing protection.

In Calif. most Costco have a hearing aid center in the store. I paid $3000 for a set 11 months later Costco sent me a refund of $750 with an explanition that they negociated a better price with the manufacture and passed the savings on to their customers. This blew me away. I think after having hearing aids for about 2 years now that they are like computers, they are out dated by the time you buy them, and you do need constant tune-ups and adjustments that Costco does at no cost. Thats my take on hearing aids.

    Thanks Jim

This reply is coming from a man that has had to have Hearing Aids for over 30 years. I have worn Oticon,Seamons, and now Liaison.
    1. Go to an audioligest that licenced and has some type of degree, the VA now reguires that the person is a Doctor. If they are for real they will recomend the right type of aid that you need. Peronaly I can not wear the in the ear type because my hearing loss is so great that behind the ear do to the power of the aids.
    2. If the hearing test is given with the old earmuffs find a new person. This type of test will not give a true sound or evaulation. The latest test is with the sound tube in the ear with a foam plug.
    3. Make sure the aids can be programed while you wear then with a computer and the fit is right they will feel odd and can hurt at first but give them a chance and rest your ear from time to time yu will soon be able to wear they as long as you want or need to.
    4. Even with hearing aids use ear plugs while shooting. Your hearing will never get better only worse.
    5. Yes Beltone are junk and are sold by mannly people that are out to make money and are not for you. The prices are over the top. I feel they should sell used cars along with the hearing aids.
Thank you for your time as I have very strong feelings about this subject.

About a year or more ago I shopped for a hearing aid for my father. Spent a bunch of time on Ebay. Don't remember the guy but he is the number one seller of hearing aids on Ebay. Sells all kinds. Talked to him on the phone a couple of times. He sells the hearing aids for a small markup. Bottom line is that the hearing aid industry is loaded with big time sharks. You already have the hearing test so you have what you need to program it. Now spend some time finding a seller who isn't just ripping you off. Ebay worked for me but it took a few hours, some emails and phone calls. Good luck. Jake

Well,,, I had and continue to have good luck with my Miracle Ear brand. I Lost one once, looked for it a month. Told Scott, the tech at the store about it, He made me a new one for only $450.00. Aid was about 3 yrs old. If you are near Madison Wi, there is a store in the East Towne Mall, next to the Sears. They do not charge for hearing tests and it only takes a week to get them completed. The $995/ pair deal was a commercial on tv.

I have gone thru all the hunting! Found them to be the best deal,,, around here anyhow. Elsewhere may be different! Paul

Old Ranger, the Oticon Delta's are worn outside and in back of your ear with a very small tube inserted into the ear canal...no special fitting required. They are rated at the top and I will probably go with them, but shopping around can save serious money. BTW, I too contacted the eBay seller, and this guy knows his stuff. He is under heavy pressure by other dealers to stop selling at such a big discount...hey, capitalism is a good thing. I don't mind supporting my local hearing professional, but the difference from $5000. to $1800. is substantial.
