Try as I might, every once in a while an interesting thread gets by me; sad but true. If there was an anecdotal thread about GW's $1,500 Winchester Model 37, I missed it! GW, would you mind terribly giving us the story?

By the way, I should point out that I love my Model 37 Winchester; it cost me only $150, and it is the only gun that I can shoot effectively from 16 to 27 yards (notice I said 'effectively' not 'perfectly'!).

    Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

A few months back some dufus from northern Ohio posted what was CLEARLY an incredibly rare NIB Red Letter 16ga M37 worth at least $3,000 but he was only asking $2000 for it. It was so ridiculously underpriced, I made a joke about it pretenting to believe was OVERpriced, but the dufus didn't get the joke and he started arguing with me. Anyway, after it settled down I drove over there without revealing my identity and STOLE the thing for $1500!!! I sold it to grntitan a week later for $2500 and he turned a profit on it a couple weeks later. Now I wish I'd kept it. That thing belongs in the NRA museum!

Yep, it is a museum quality piece. I ended up getting $3500 for it and now it's at my LGS for sale again. Maybe I'll post it here on TS.COM in the "For Sale" section so others can have a shot at it.

I want that gun back, you bastard. Is it on consignment? Get it back. I'll give back the grand I made on it and work something out w/ you. I still can't believe I let that beauty slip through my fingers.

    Gary,

I have an arrangement with my LGS where as I can sell stuff for them for profit and he in turn sells stuff for me. Maybe we can work something out. That gun w/original box could fetch more yet. It's a real story piece.

Get it back, Matt. I've got one of those green Double Autos I'll throw-in to sweeten the deal. I know you like those hideous Twelvette tomato stakes.

I'm Gary's dufus. Here is the link to the original thread. While Gary calls me a dufus, he has edited his remarks from when they were first posted. Gary, why not stick to your original remarks? I am flattered that you have done your homework on me. I guess that is what happens when you post your real name here on ts.com. Did you check my ATA average?

Here is the thread where Gary got on the hook with the $1,500 sale of the M37. To date, he has not changed any of his comments on this thread. Please note the professional grade photoshop skills.

Porcupine, you commented in the original post where the gun was for sale. Forgetful or are you Gary posting under another name?

From what I understand about dealing in collectibles, the item had to be very desireable and most likely expensive at time of its origination to be truly collectible. Just being rare or scarce is not enough!
