I will be vacationing in Destin this July and was wanting to charter a boat for deep-sea fishing. Has anyone had any positive experiences with a boat/captain that you would recommend?

    Thanks.

Phil, check the fishing regs for the gulf this year. They have closed, want to close, or shorten the season on most of the good fish. We live over by Port St Joe, and I don't know of a bad Capt. that has been around for a while. See if you can find one to go over to the oil rigs off La. Usually a two day plus trip. That's where you go for tuna. Take lots of money, diesel is expensive and those big charter boats burn a bunch. Stay away from the party boats if you are serious about catching a bunch of fish. Mike's correct about the closed seasons for most fish. You will have to decide weather you want to fish inshore for tarpon and misc, or head offshore and find the oil rigs and or the shrimp boats. Bring beer for the mates on the boats and they will give you by-catch to fish and chum with. Tuna, sharks, boneheads are all in the mix. They sleep by day and fish by night-but your captain will know the routine. Inshore will be much less expensive and can be done l/2 day instead of 12 plus hours depending on speed of boat. Break-em all. Jeff
