Derrick Mein Named Manager of Powder Creek

    Mein Named General Manager of Powder Creek Shooting Park

    Derrick Mein, reigning US Open FITASC national champion has been hired as the general manager at the prestigious Powder Creek Shooting Park in Lenexa, Kansas. Mein is the first shooter in history to ever break 99 consecutive targets in a national FITASC (Federation Internationale de Tir Aux Sportives de Chasse) event, widely considered the hardest of all shotgun competitive venues. Earlier this year, Mein shot on the US National bunker trap team in Australia. In 2010 he was the National Helice Champion and also placed third in the National Sporting Clays Association US National championship. In 2009 he placed third in the Helice World Championships held in Portugal and was a member of the US team which won the gold medal. That year Mein came within six targets of being selected to represent the United States in Olympic bunker trap in Beijing, China. In 2008 Mein won the ACUI Collegiate overall championship. In addition to his International prominence, Mein has won the Kansas State Sporting Clays tournament the last five times that he has entered it!

    A native of Girard, Kansas, Mein originally attended Lindenwood University on a shooting and baseball scholarship prior to transferring and receiving a degree in animal science from Kansas State University. While at KSU, Mein played a pivotal role in training the Wildcat shooting team which became the Division II champions at this years national championships held in San Antonio, Texas.

    Assuming his role on September 1st, Mein is responsible for all aspects of managing the daily functioning of the shooting park.

    Established in 1949 as the "Kansas Field and Gun Dog Association," Powder Creek is the most complete Shooting Sports Center in the Kansas City Metropolitan area and has grown to be one of the largest public shooting ranges in the Midwest. The club annually hosts the nation's 2nd largest collegiate shooting tournament and throws over 1.5 million clay pigeons per year. The Shooting Park features a thirteen-station sporting clays course, an Argentina course, a 5-stand course, four trap fields, three skeet fields and a full Cowboy Action Shooting town.
