A character both on and off screen to be sure. RIP Dennis.

Wasn't he in Water World? One of the worst, most expensive films ever made. Caption of the ship?

He was in one of the greatest movie scenes ever. It was in True Romance. Chris Walken (Vincent Concordia) was questioning Dennis on the whereabouts of his son Clarence. Dennis was explaining the origins of Sicilians. Dennis came out of it KIA on screen.

Dennis also had a great part as an alcoholic father/coaches assistant in the movie "Hoosiers". He was one of those actors that was as good at the end of his career as he was in the beginning.

As odd as he was was, he has to be given credit as a great actor who could play diverse roles convincingly.
