are you staying at a camp gound? if so where we are thinking of going ther instead of florida
Well, for starters there is the National Shooting Complex which hosts the World Skeet Open and the Sporting Clay championships among many others. There is also San Antonio Gun Club, right in the middle of town. They offer Trap, Skeet, Int'l Skeet, and Bunker Trap. There are probably more gun clubs around San Antonio than any other large city in America.
What Bawana64 said, and add Kerrville - US Olympic Training Site.
I doubt however that the San Antonio area has more shooting facilities than Houston. American Shooting Center, Rio Brazos, Greater Houston Gun club, Westside Sporting, Ables, Clay Mound and Creekwood just to name a few.
National Shooting Complex also has a bunker.
The National Shooting Complex is open to the public Thursday and Saturday. It has trap, skeet, bunker, five stand and sporting clays. Trainer-Hale is east of town and has trap, skeet, and country doubles. They have money shoots on Tuesday night. San Antonio Gun Club has trap, skeet and bunker. San Antonio Target, Hunting and Fishing Club has a very non-regulation trap field and they are open Thursday night and Saturday and they shoot games.
Hope this helps.
Don't forget Bandera. Great lil club...
Don't forget Trainer Hale! Just east of town. It's THE place to buy reloading supplies.
Thank you one and all gentlemen, will see you there this winter.
Don't go to trainer hale better known as bexar shooting range off trainer hale road unless you want to have a lot of fun with the guys and pappa bear.
I don't think anybody answered the primary question. "shotgun games?" Everybody answered with locations. The ATA website only shows shoots for 2012.
I am a 2D year snow bird to Texas and would also like to shoot trap events in the Austin/San Antonio area (even Houston), registered or non registered.
Texas has a big shoot, The Lone Star Shoot, the middle of Sept at the NSC and Houston Metro club has shoots most Sundays.
Metro Gun Club is between Houston and Angleton TX. A great place to shoot.
Lemme see if I can find Mike Hessong, of Victoria Trap & Skeet. He wheel-horses a bunch of country shoots all over South Texas.
Thanks for bringing that up Mike31Z, no one is answering the "primary question" that is where are the "shotgun games"?
Sometimes these things are passed on only by word of mouth. Ron
Thanks for mentioning the Victoria Skeet and Trap Club. We have a special "winter Texans" rate ($50 for 6 months) and pay as you go by using pre-paid shot card coupons. We have 2 skeet fields, 2 trap fields and a combined country doubles/5-stand sporting clays range. Our fun shoots have pretty much slowed down for the season, most people are getting into real hunting and shooting, with south zone dove season just a couple of weeks away.
On the responses on "shotgun games", the author was "probably" talking about trap games: i.e.: Annie's, scrap, bushwacker and some of those other things shot at "meat shoots" around other parts of the state or country. Don't have a lot of those type events around our area, but we do do a lot of clay-target shooting at Victoria S&TC, as well as the La Grange range (Fayette County Gun Club) and over at the Metro Gun Club (Angleton, Texas trap range)
Hope you find a great place to winter in South Texas, and welcome to Texas.
