I believe the specials have an adjustable length of pull trigger, and a tapered rib. The perazzi experts here will verify me as right or wrong.

My TMX was built in 1982 and has a tapered rib so I believe all DB81's have a tapered rib.

Eurojoe has it correct. The only difference is the P4 Trigger. It is adjustable for LOP and internal selective. As to the tapered Ribs, all DB81s are Ramped/Tapered 13.6mm Ribs.

Yes the original DB81 had 2 trigger assemblies and the entry level MX-3 only had one that shot Top barrel first in order to save money.

Early model DB81 Special's had a barrel weight in front of dummy bottom barrel. Had P-4 trigger.

Both my DB-81's had 2 triggers, and a separate forend and iron for both the single barrel and the O/U barrel. The DB-81 Special has one forend and iron, and as mentioned above, had a P-4 selectable trigger. Both are very good trap guns, but, in my opinion, the earlier DB-81 guns were much better made, and the metal was a better material..... Dan Thome (Trap2)
